Why is my bike so jerky??
Whats the deal with this, is my chain to loose? It is impossible for me to get all the way off the gas and try to smoothly come back on the throttle without my bike bucking. This is really a problem when I am taking slow left hand turns, as I can't be smooth with the throttle. If I slowly come off the throttle, the bike lunges forward, then when I slowly come back on the gas, it lunges back. Another thing, when I am at idle, if I turn my wheel to the right, I get more slack in the throttle. When I turn the handles to the left, the throttle tightens right up. If I hold a constant throttle position, it will rev when I turn left and rev down when I turn right. Is this normal? The biggest thing is the jerkyness. I will try to smoothly apply the throttle through a low speed corner and she will jerk and if my tire is on some sand, sometimes it will kick a little. The bike is a 01 CBR600F4i with 3k miles. There are no warning/check engine lights of any kind lit up. ANY help would be appreciated. The chain seems to have about 1.5"s of slack on the bottom side.
my ninja 250 does the same thing, my way to remedy this problem is slide the clutch a little as i go through the corner giving it just a little gas to get some power to the ground but to keep it from jerking. i think its because of it being chain drive because another bike i had that was shaft drive didn't do it. sounds like something bikes with chain drives just do...
The term you are looking for is 'Driveline Lash' and it can be caused by a number of things.
Your transmission could be a factor, your chain and/or your carbs.
Driveline lash is common to almost all chain driven bikes, it's pretty annoying on mine but I think your problem is worse. It sounds like you have poor low speed throttle response which leads me to believe a tune up may be in order. At least pull your plugs and take a look. At least get some Seafoam, that should help as a cheap fix.
Also, chain tension is not constant across the chain so check your chain tension in a few spots, not just one.
