Service Question
The engine light on my wife's '00 Accord EX (57k miles) came on and I took it in to a local dealer to have it checked after AutoZone could not read the code. The dealer said the reading came back P1259 - VTEC. He explained this had to do with either going over on mileage for the oil change or not using Honda filters and oil. He reset the light, changed the oil and said if the light came back on to bring it back because "something" was getting clogged by oil. This was the check engine light and not the service light. Does this sound familiar to anyone? He also wants me to bring the car back at 60k and pay @ $350 for them to check the belts, change brake fluid/trans fluid.??
I have the oil changed in the car ever 3k -3500 miles but I don't use Honda. If it causes problems, I'll start taking it to the dealer but he is about 50 miles away.
Any ideas from the group would be appreciated.

Thanks for the reply. That is my understanding. He said it (the malfunction) was somehow caused by the oil (poor filtration was one example he gave).
I know Honda recently extended my emissions warranty to 80K miles. I wonder if they are trying to avoid fixing a known problem that is under warranty???? I've never used these guys as I bought the car new in 2000 when I lived somewhere else.

A common problem for that code is low oil presure caused by low oil level. That's always the first thing I check when that code comes up.

There's a warranty extension on the EGR system, but that doesn't cover anything else.

One of the easiest ways to keep up on any services or recalls is to sign up at honda. Here is the link :
http://www.hondacars.com/info/...honda
You will need your VIN but it will keep you updated
