Default Finally gonna go for it...Need some advice

Well guys, it's been about a year and a half that I've been thinking about jumping into an R. Gone back and forth because of security, insurance, payments, etc. Was going to buy a friends until it was stolen....SOOOO....I've been back and forth on the issue, but in august i'm moving and will have secure storage for the vehicle. So, it's time.

Most important question here, is what is the average going price for a decent R? The few I'd looked into before seemed to be between 16-17ish? What kind of range should I be looking at? The main reason I ask is I'm going to be getting a loan, and need to work the budget, get a loan, etc.

Also...what are you guys paying for insurance? Record is less than perfect, and I'm ready for the raping though. Just curious what you guys are paying.

Lastly, any other shopping advice? Anything to look for out of the ordinary? Obviously carfax, etc, is a must. Thanks for the help in advance guys...

00/01: 16k to 22k depending on condition, mileage, etc..
97/98: 12k to 17k depending on condition, mileage, etc..

Good luck convincing the bank that the car is worth more than blue book/NADA retail though.. prepare to have some cash to cover the difference..

#98-0106 insurance in MD: $125/month w/ $1k deductible
#98-0055 insurance in IL: $60/month w/$500 deductible
(I should point out that I turned 25 between having each, but it didn't change it that much) (Also, I have 1 point and 2 total loss claims - speeding, accident, stolen R)

as for shopping for one.. look for any signs of body work.. check behind interior paneling and under the carpet if they'll let you.. overspray, misaligned panels, etc are also good signs of this.. check for water leakage into the hatch as well - a common integra problem..

thanks for the tips guys. as for the insurance...yeah...i'm ready. lol.

and as for the loan...i'm hoping to go through peoplefirst. i've had a loan from them before that went great...so hopefully i won't be dealing w/ bank loan officers.

RealTypeR : pics/price/location? i was gonna try to hold off a month or two so it wouldn't be in my exposed parking space before i move...but if the right car comes along...hehe

Actually carfax isn't a must. It just tells you very briefry, the history and when the previous owners lived. Oh yeah, and the mileage when inspections were done (some of them). Unless you're getting the R from an original owner, it's not a bad idea for $20.

You're thinking is totally backwards. Usually most car enthusiests know exactly what their desired car runs and then assesses their personal finances. I know I did.

Good luck in your search. Remember, just don't settle on one. It may take 6 months or more and days of Autotrader and Cars.com to find the right one.

well if u dont really plan on reselling it after a while or something u MIGHT want to consider a salvaged title that is already fixed for a type R i found a TERRIFIC 1 for 1 of my friends ... great price great body great over all no prob. mechanics or body defect dents/scratches... just the resale is crap so he is gonan get it for cheap... well considering it is a 2001 type R wit only 25k miles on it... just a suggestion
