Hey D.specs:

Email me when you call those guys regarding the Type S cam valve clearances. I was told that they were the same as the regular H22a valve clearance specs. I am curious to know for sure.

Thanks,
Mark

just use the stock valve clearance for normal usd engine.

theese are just clearances..

if u get tiighter u'll have a little more power but it'll all last less long..

if u go over the stock clearances u'll loose some caus of kind of floating..

Default Since..

..there have been reported incidents of scortched rocker arms when using the Type S cams in USDM h22 heads, I would say that you might want to run the clearances a little loose. Also, if you haven't already bought the type s cams, you might want to consider the SH came, only slightly less aggressive than the Type S, yet have never scortched stock valvetrain/rocker arms, etc., and do not need stiffer valvestprings and retainers, unlike the Type S that requires both.

Yes indeed, i have heard about the Type S cams supposedly causing harm to the USDM H22A heads. Are the 93-96 USDM and JDM H22A heads the same? I know i have had the Type S cams for nearly two years now with no problems. At the same time, i installed Type S valve springs and retainers just to be on the safe side. I guess it is probable that if you use the Type S cams without the sfiffer valve springs and retainers from the Type S you might have these problems.

I used the valve clearances from the US spec H22a at the time of installation. I was just curious to find out if the Type S specs are really much more different than those of the US spec H22.

Regards,
Mark

Default Specs...

Valve timing* Normal H22A "S" H22A
Intake opening (BTDC) 15 15
Intake closing (ATDC) 40 45
Exhaust opening (BBDC) 40 45
Exhaust closing (ATDC) 15 15
Valve lift* Normal H22A "S" H22A
Intake (mm) 11.5 12.2
Exhaust (mm) 10.5 11.2

These are the specs that I have found published comparing the S cams w/ base h22 cams. Im not sure if the heads b/w the 93-96 are the same as the 97+, maybe, maybe not, perhaps the scorching was due to people using base valvetrain w/ S cams, who knows? Nice to hear that they have been trouble free for you..
