CBR1100XX
What do you guys think of this bike? It looks very attractable and affordable to me for the summer time (and to keep).
Is this a good bike? Any major flaws that anyone knows of? Any discussion would be nice.
Please leave out the "beginners bike" stuff. I know this bike is not a beginners bike - I'm not a beginner, but not a professional. I'm looking for info on the bike itself. Hopefully someone can chime in who has experience or has owned one.
Thanks

I'm not looking to stunt or race, I'm looking for something with serious power, handling, braking and reliability.
I'm not going to discuss what I've ridden, because I'm not looking for critique on what other bikes are out there that someone over the internet may feel more suitable for me.
I know what other bikes are out there, and I know what I can handle. That's all I really feel like saying.
I'm looking for strait discussion on this bike. I would appreciate it if anyone with experience on one can give me your opinions or knowledge.

Well if that is what you want, that right there is the bike for you.
I know a guy who had one and talked to him at length about it, because that is a favorite bike of mine. Serious power might be an understatement, it has god-like power, is scads more comfortable than any sportbike, brakes well, is reliable (he had 20k+ miles on his), can be outfitted with tons of bags to carry stuff and is overall one of his favorite bikes. He sold it for a Yamaha FJ1300 because he wanted something even more comfortable (He regularly did 8 hour rides and Iron Butt rallies).
The downside he mentioned was the weight. It's a bit heavy in the slow maneuvers and not as flickable as more dedicated sportbikes. That is to be expected though, as that is a grand touring bike that just happens to be sporty. For the money that one could be had for, I think they are a bargain.
That bike is what I would call a keeper, definitely not something you will grow tired of after a year or 2 and it's very versatile.

That is an excellent bike, not my cup of tea, but it would be nice to have ona long sport riding trip. Plenty of room and power, the only drawback if you can call it one is the weight on these big open class sport tourers... but once they are rolling, they are good to rock with

well i was going to relate the XX to what you have ridden, as far as performance and handling since i have some experience with it...
i wasnt going to treat you like a child. but whatever.

Thanks very much for the feedback people!
falconGSR, I'm not worried about you treating me like a child. And if you did I would likely disregard your post and move onto the next. Another reason I didn't post what I've ridden is because they are not street bikes and they're not 4 strokes. I raced motocross on numerous bikes from 80cc - 500cc's... which to me is somewhat hard to relate to less nimble street bikes that weigh about twice as much. If you want to compare that, feel free... but it's kind of irrelevant to me. The only relevant things I can think of are tactics to keep yourself out of trouble, and those I'm almost 100% sure I can learn on a 1100XX. The only street bikes I've ridden consist mainly of sportster Harleys and a CBR600.
Again thanks for the feedback on the XX. It really sounds like a good bike for me, whether it's my first street bike or not. I'm more concerned about the handling, weight, and braking over the power it has.

18-20k. not toooo bad for what you get. i am wondering if the front suspension will be more successful than bmw's other ventures (paralever and telelever i think?)
i think the new one is called duolever and honestly it might be a viable solution on road bikes.
i think the FJR1300, this new BMW, and the new CBR1200XX will compete directly. good stuff!

Also check out the VFR. I see 02's going for 6 grand and is probably more suited as a first bike. It's not as powerful as the XX, but it handles better and is arguably more comfortable. The brakes on the XX are good, but the linked system on the VFR is out-******* standing. Plus it's got ABS. Tasty.

I owned a '97 CBR1100XX a few years back ('99). It was a great bike, had no problems at all with it, typical Honda reliability. FYI, it also had the Linked Braking System, not sure about ABS, maybe later models came with that. It was very comfortable but it was a beast (550 lbs) It is very heavy by '04 standards. You get used to the weight though. It is great for long distance stuff and highway duty. It's got tall gearing (4000 rpm @ 70 in 6th gear)
If your buying one used you should be able to haggle a good deal since there are so many other better (read: lighter and more powerful) bikes now. If you're buying new I recommend waiting until the '05 bikes come out. I suspect '05 may be the year of the open class bike,
why?
Suzuki: The Busa is pretty much the same since '01
Honda: CBR1100XX hasn't been updated since '99, cancelled for '04 model year
Kawasaki: The ZX-12R has only received minor updates since its '00 intro
Just a theory though...

If ur looking in to those bikes the 1100XX there are also other companies that make that type of bike such as Suzuki's Hybusa, or even kawasaki's ZZr12 it pretty much comes down to what company u favor and what is ur color preference but yes the CBR1100XX does have power and everything around but i also like busa all around too...

Like I said, I know what other bikes are out there. The busa is almost always the more expensive one. I'd MUCH rather have it.. but I doubt I'll find one in my price range.

Yeah, thats another cool thing about the CBRXX's... The owner base is a little older and they usually take really good care of them. Mine had 5,000 Miles and it was mint when I bought it.

Man! If only this were a couple months from now. I unfortunately have to wait a couple months because I have a personal loan out on an engine for my project car and I don't want to get myself into debt by buying the bike just yet, I don't think I could afford it.
I appreciate your post! I'll likely be giving them a call just to check it out.
