Default Car died again at lunch :o(

Bought a new battery yesterday and got home fine. Car ran fine to work. Coming back from lunch, popped vtec, then the car just shut off, battery light came on, power steering went out. As I coasted into the parking lot I tried to pop the clutch to get the car running again, but it didn't work. Coasted into my work parking lot, tried to start it, but it just turns and turns and turns, but won't start.

Any ideas?

Alternator?

Bad ground(s) draining the battery?

Battery connections tight? I've had similar problems when my battery ground was not secure.

I tightened them pretty good, but it wouldn't even click if the battery cables came off or undone. I don't freakin' get it.

It tried to crank, but it just won't turn over.

Dave ---> I'm supposed to be in Clearwater this weekend for a family reunion

Hmm.... hope it's not the case, but would it be the timing belt? It sounds like it.

Wai, I haven't changed the timing belt yet. I called Acura and they gave me a few tips. They told me to try and get the car started, then take the positive battery cable off. If the car dies, it's the alternator. Any truth to this?

What makes you say it's the timing belt?

I doubt the engine would turn over if the timing belt snapped...without a huge the alternator is the cause...amount of noise...

If your altenator died then j00 would drain the battery before the engine would shut down...and since j00 can crank the car, the battery isn't dead....i would doubt

no check engine light?

Didn't j00 say before that the fuel pump wasn't whining as usuall in the previous post?

I don't think the timing belt snapped. No check engine light yet. I was getting code 10, 67 & 90 before, but since we reset the ECU yesterday, none came on last night and none this morning. Engine tries, but just won't crank.

Fuel pump was not whining yesterday, but we let it rest in the parking lot for like 6 hours, then it starting whining again. It's like it needed a nap or something. Seems like the fuel pump or alternator. Either way, it's to me.

Why would it be the alternator? The alternator doesn't provide power till the engine is running...

I tried to pop the clutch when I was coasting into the parking lot, but it didn't restart.

I can probably push it 10 miles home from work though

I'm still thinking it's wiring related. Electrical problems are a PITA to diagnose.

Isn't there some sort of rule prohibiting replying before reading the whole post?

Could it be stereo related? Didn't someone just "fix" that for him?

Hmmmm perhaps check your main relay. I don't know about it making the car die but when mine went bad the car wouldn't start when it got really warm inside the car. It would start and then die.

I dunno if that's it but might check it, only like $50 from Honda.
