Default A/C expansion valve

I have a Acord 1990 LX 4 dr sedan.............

Last year I had my A/C system changed from R-12 to R134a if I only knew that I could have just have my old system R-12 reclaimed or evacuated and just bought the retrofit kit I could have used it........to save afew hundred dollars.......(kit cost like 50$ @walmarty or auto parts store).....anyways........... my wife felt the A/C system aint workin well at the start of thisa spring so she tap ity off with R-134 but unfortunately when I checked it itsw overcharged ,,,,,, si no choice I went to A/c Shop and w3as told my A/C EXPANSION VALVE is clogged and the y have to replace it would cost me a whoppoing $350.00 anyt chance anyone can help me out ........if I can I would liek to DYI this project ......hey its a 1990 and im plannintg to sell it this winter so i wouldnt want to invest more money in it but still I wanted to use it this summer PLSSSSSSSSSSSS HELPPPPPPPPPPPPPPP.

Would there be a chance to just have my system evacuated ( with the process take out the expansion valve clog) and just fill it up with a R-134 making sure I wouldnt overcharge it again...........???

Ive never heard anything good about a/c leak sealer products. Might explain your clogged up expansion valve. You might be able to disasemble the system and flush the crap out, but that would be alot of work.

Wow, maybe they are trying to make money off you? Then again, they have more knowledge than most of us.

I went to my mechanic to fill up R-134 and he overfilled it because he didn't check the pressure.

Went to an A/C specialist and he simply vaccumed the AC system and filled up freon to appropriate pressure levels...and my AC works like a gem

Not sure if that helps

Think about buying a Helm Manual, I hear they are pretty good, I just ordered one the other day. $80 total, but will save you lots in the long run if you like working on your own stuff. I would think once you let all the R-134 out and remove the valve, after cleaning/replacing it buy a recharge kit and recharge it little by little until it feels cool enough, just don't over charge it, w/o gauges you will not know the pressure in the system. May want to call a shop and ask them what the typical # of cans it usually takes for an Accord, don't forget the oil for the compressor.... Not sure about this A/C sealer stuff???

to get to teh expansion valve....
1. evacuate a/c system
2. remove glove box
3. from inside of the engine bay detach the ac lines going through the firewall
4. remove the 4-6 bolts holding the ac evaporator in behind the glove box.
5. remove evaporator.
5. replace expansion valve. do steps 4,-2 in reverse.
6. replace drier
7. pull a vacuum on the ac system
8. replace refrigerant as well as any oil that came out when pulling the system apart.

if you are lucky that is it. my system never worked right til i:
-replaced expansion valve
-replace drier
-flushed each piece of tubing
-replace every o-ring and used o-ring sealant
-replaced drier
-THEN refilled etc.

it is very common for the expnasion valve to clog or fail after 14 years and a retrofit to a higher pressure regrigerant. speacially if you put other crap in teh system besides oil and refrigerant...
