how to measure master cylinder?? (MC upgrade Q)
hey folks, im in the process of upgrading to GSR brakes at all 4 corners, so i've decided to upgrade the master cylinder also. i read thru this thread:
https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=364783&page=1
and i bought a 91 EX MC from pepboys ($59.99, $20 core). it has the p/n listed in the above thread (M52517). however, it doesnt have the size stamped on the outside. i want to make sure i have the right MC before i install it... here are some pics.... could someone photoshop or explain to me where i should measure? TIA

Measure the outside diameter of the cylinder coming out of the back of it. An MC is measured by the diameter of the opening inside of it and that cylinder rides along the inside to push fluid so measuring that should work fine.
EX MC should be 15/16s I believe.

i would assume that the part that goes into the booster is the same size for all civic MC's... if i measure the rod that sticks into the booster, it's only ~0.6" with my caliper... anyone else have some insight on how to measure the MC?

the rod length on the m/c itself is the same as your oem... you have to install it then measure how far the brakes go down before you hit the end of the rod of the m/c. remember you will have some slack in the brake no matter what. and then you either lengthen the push rod so the pedal is within oem specs.
most of the time you dont have to make any changes when getting a new m/c. i didnt...
if your measuring if its a true 15/16ths m/c that is the measurement of the fluid holes in the m/c ( the ones internally) so you just have to take their word if its not marked... you wont see any real difference anyway since your using the civic booster.... once you go 1" with the integra booster you feel the difference..
atleast that was my experience from oem> 15/16th's> 1"
