Maybe traffic accidents aren't a big enough problem over there to have to put them on their cars.

Im guessing not ..

Ive heard that in most major cities in Japan if youre going anywhere within an hour away you can get there faster by bike than by car. Mainly Tokyo.

Not entirely true, they, like most normal civilised countries, have a law that requires the occupants of a car to wear seatbelts Or at least they dont have a requirement that all cars must not injure/kill the occpants in an unbelted 30mph crash, like a certain large country. Hence airbags became standard equipment much later, like in Europe If your daft enough not to wear a belt, you deserve a trip to the ER IMHO May bit a bit harsh, but i have to deal with these crappy regs, and i know it has a lot to do with some nice cars either not being built or ending up on your side of the pond, like TVR's for instance, i mean why would you not want this car, 400bhp, 1000kg, 190mph, $60,000

Same with he motorbike helmet law, like WTF

Maybe since they have to get rid of the car or engine after 30,000 miles they really don't care if they get totaled easily

Air bags were implemented because North Americans (mostly those in between Canada and Mexico ) are too stupid to wear their damn seat belt.

Well what I was asking was like the ek if there is no airbag there is a hole so Honda put in the tray... i know that prior to 94-95 honda had non pass airbags but afterwards they did.... so what im trying to find out is if they took and just used the regular non airbag dashes or if they put a plug in there and used the 94-95 ones..

the speed limits in japan are much lower than they are here in the states, they also have camera radars on all highways to give you tickets, and tickets are expensive over there. When I was there my wifes sister was going 10km over the limit and got a 150000 yen fine (about $150 bux). Also theres lots of traffic anywhere in town so you cant really get going too fast. also any time you go through a toll booth (anyone who has been to japan knows how often this happens) the dudes will tell you to buckle up before they let you through. heh. Some cars do come with airbags over there though.
