Default Omni Rear Shim Kit

Yeah I'm sorry to report this, but don't install omni rear shim kit. Yeah I know it's a ghetto way to adjust your rear camber but oh well. I got it with upper control arms (which work great).

Ok here is the story, so my friend installs his rear shim kit, and goes for a drive. When he comes back and checks on the suspension, he finds rear shim kit bolts sticking out of the car. Well omni didn't take into consideration that there isn't enough thread on the bolt to screw in, so when undthreaded part started to go in (it's thicker BTW) it decided to take out some of the threads. We had to get the holes retaped and put in bigger bolts along with bigger washers.

As you can imagine that if we didn't notice it in time my friend would find himself fishtalling into the curb somewhere. I wrote omni an email twice about it, waited almost a week and they still didn't respond to me, even though I spoke to them thru email before. I find this really crappy and as far as I know they still sell the rear shim kit.

Just letting you guys know.

You get what you pay for

I got the SPC adjustable arm.. its great.. you can dial in camber with out guessing the size of the washer

yeah but I didn't order it came with a front camber kit. Those things should not be on the market because they damage your car and can result in bad accident.

Second of all they don't like responding to email if they are bad, they only respond after you order stuff from that. It looks like they are bunch of pussies that are scared to get sued or something.

Lol I know, but as I said I didn't buy it they give those away to kill yourself. And they are technicaly responsible for what happens.

Omni is supposed to be respectable but they act like pussies.

Hmm..I ordered the fronts also. I had a problem with them but it seems to be fixed now (car was infact too low). I haven't put in the FREE rear shim kit yet cuz I don't really need it. I'll take a look at it and see how this could have happened? I thought this was an age old trick for lowered Honda's.

it's not the problem with a trick it's the problem with the bolts. they are too thick in unthreaded part and this just totaly screws up the threads inside the car once the unthreaded part went in.

I did have some problems with the balljoint on the upper control arms but I only had to reathead one of them, so it's wasn't so bad.

I was never going to get the shim kit. Do it the old fashioned way with the washers/spacers. I'm still debating on the front camber kit. I remember reading a thread where a Skunk2 one ripped apart. Plus, Omni and Skunk2 are in a way, related, I'm still debating if I want it. I really don't want to **** my tires, but damn...I don't know what to do.

the reason why skunk2 ripped apart because it was weak, they made a second version of skunk2 which is stronger and that's what the omni kit is bassed on.

BTW spacers and washers is a rear shim kit.

I would be inclined to think that you should use some reasoning when installing the rear shims. If the bolts dont thread in as far as the OE units, they should be deemed as not long enough, and longer bolts should be sourced and used.

Then again, maybe Im missunderstanding the problem with the bolts supplied in the kit.

no they tread in perfect, actually they tread in too much, they tread in far enough that the unthreaded part of the bolt wants to go in.

Well I feel better about the front camber kit. I know the rear shim kit consists of washers/spacers, but those can be bought at Home Depot (is where I was leading into).

So the shaft of the bolts are smooth, but the end is threaded, just not far enough. Did you use all of the washers included in the kit? Its possible, if you didnt, that they require you to use all of the supplied washers. Just thinking out loud.

yeah I used 2 washers out of 3 ones but then even if you use 3 it would still go thru the car because it took out every single tread.

They do look slightly long. Best of luck with OmniPower. I would just go buy some correctly sized bolts.

Man, I had the same exact problem last night when installing my full coilover setup! I ordered the special package that came with teh front and rear camber kits. Me and my bud were up until 3:30am trying to figure out a way to get it fixed. The nut that is tack welded on the inside of the body that holds that bolt broke off!! And it broke off because of (just as you say) the threads are not long enough! I had to drill a small hole with a hole-saw so I could get a wrench up in there and hold the nut to tighten it down. Needless to say, that bolt is probably never coming out!

BTW, I absolutely LOVE the coilovers. But the rear upper contol arm problem was a major pain in the ***. I hope Omni can remedy this before too many people go through the same problem!

you guys know he is a member on this board right?

I was talking to him yesterday about getting full coilover set up. I also inquired about getting one of his front camber kits. He said he would throw in the rear shim kit for free. He seemed like a really nice guy, and i doubt he is aware of the problem. Try PM'ing him and let him know.

His member name is Omniman

I already talked to him, it didn't change too much. My friend still suffered a loss and other people get same problems as he did. The product is still on the market for some reason.
