Default d16y7 in HF CRX

Just kinda need a checklist to see what I still need to get to do the swap correctly...

I have a stock 91 HF, and I just bought a d16y7 from a 97 civic.

I was originally supposed to get the computer with it, but that kinda fell
through.

Do I really need the computer with the engine, or can I use mine? If I need
the computer, are there different model hondas I might be able to get one
from. I just don't know yet what I'm looking for, except that the engine is
a d16y7 out of a 97 civic.

Also, I was told I would be able to use my existing wiring harness...any
input on that?

And the distributor? he took that too, that shouldn't be to hard to find,
but does anyone know if mine will work?

Just a couple things I couldn't find definitive answers on. Any insight is
greatly appreciated.

I've also seen just looking through the forums it looks like I'll have to convert from obd0 to obd1. what is involved in that? I assumes that means I'll need a different computer.

Yeah use the pm6 (88-91CRX Si, 90-91 Civic EX, 89-91 Civic Si, or 88-91 Civic Wagon 4wd) or pg7 (88 - 89 Integra) ECU and the HF distributor. You shouldn't have to change the wiring harness if you do it that way. The D16 will run with the HF ECU but you will be down on power and will throw a code because the HF has an EGR system that isn't present on your new engine.

Since the D16y7 is a non - vtec engine, you shouldn't have to change over OBD1. If you pass the tailpipe emission test in St. Louis, they won't open the hood on your car.

Alright, just picked up a pm6 from a civic wagon 4wd. Will it matter that the car I got it from is an automatic, and I've got a manual? The only other thing that I wasn't sure about was the o2 sensor. I think that's what it is, right at the exhaust manifold and cat converter, right? Well I got a header with the engine I'd like to use if I can. And not sure what I'm going to use from there back, any suggestions would be appreciated. Can I just use a straight pipe back to the rear for right now, or would that bad? What I really need to know, however, is what I should do with the o2 sensor?

Thanks

Looks like I'm finally gonna get around to doing that swap tomorrow. I've got the d15 ready to come out...I think I have everything I need. Hope to get it running by tomorrow night. Any advice? This is my first engine swap.

Here's a pic or two:

AND, I was thinking of using my intake manifold, since my sensors are different than the d16y7 manifold. It's completely different from mine. That is the way to do it, right?

keep us posted on this. I got a friend with a '97 LX parts car with this engine in it. He wants $100 for the engine, tranny (which I cant use) and ECU if I want it. If you can do a write up while you are doing this swap.

Nooooo, Dont use the hf manifold on it.. Its smaller than a golf ball.. Use everything you have from the d16 motor.. What sensors are different.. You just have a extend a few wires maybe and change the thermoswitch plug to the d16 one but that should be it..

Ohh wait.. The y7 manifold is the goofy top mounted tb isnt it.. ****.. Go get a d16y8 or d16z6 one.. Dont use the hf one..

Also use your motor mounts from the hf motor on the d16 motor..

This swap is pretty straight forward and doesnt need many changes.. I've done it, look at my sig..

Would my manifold work until I got something else...oh wait, I do have something else...I'm not sure what it is. The guy gave it to me along with the engine. It looks a lot like my manifold, but some small differences...is there a way to tell what it's from?

Ah, there are some numbers:

P09 IPT-2 4520

I'll look that up and see what I can find.

cx 92-95 manifold same thing has the hf basically. the y7 motor is a strong motor. Get yourself a 88--91 complete manifold worth the investment.

Ahhh.. a cx manifold.. I thought it kinda looked like a hf manifold but wasnt.. I've been talking to him on IM and left for the junkyard in search of a d16z6 manifold for it..

The D16Y8 flows more air than the D16Z6 one does.. There are a few other differences too..

Well didn't get the engine in yet, still kinda rounding up various parts.
Kinda lucky break at the junkyard, ran into an integra with a d16a1 in it.

Unfortunatly the head and ecu were already gone, but sitting underneith the car was this:

was able to pick it up for $15, what's the best way to go about cleaning it up?

And the throttle body was nowhere to be found. Since it wasn't attached, I'm assuming it was already bought. I guess there would be no point in using that intake with my hf throttle body huh?

I haven't taken a real good look at it yet, but could the throttle body that came with the 97 civic d16y7 work with it? The manifold is different, and the throttle body sits on top. It looks like, it kinda may, possibly work, maybe. I'll know when I get it off. If that works, I should be set. That is if the pm6 computer I got will work. A search on this site shows varying opinions on weather there is a difference in the pm6 ECUs. All I know is that I did get this ECU of a 90 civic 4wd wagon, and it WAS automatic. I don't know yet for sure if it will work, but I guess I'm gonna give it a try if I can't find another pm6 soon.

Thanks for all the advice.

If thats from a d16a1 it wont bolt up to the y7 head. You need a sohc intake manifold

Alright, it's back to the yard again. Only 2 left for me to go to, keeping my fingers crossed.

BTW, how much more work would it be to replace the head if I found one? Would I still be able to use my dizzy, harness, the pm6 ecu and everything? Is it just a simple head swap, and probably a new timing belt? Thanks again, just trying to get my stuff together to do this right.

You don't think it would help any to go with a dohc head? or is it just to much work? I did see one in decent condition for $50 from a d16a1 with 138,000 miles. I took your advice though and left it cause it wasn't one of the yards I could return stuff at. I really was concidering getting it, any other opinions?

Anyway I found this off a d15b7. It's probably not the greatest, but I think this one will work. It's definatly bigger then my hf intake. Any reason I can't use it?

Oh, and would it matter what fuel rail and infectors I use for the d16y7? Can I just go ahead and use mine? I only ask because I can take those back to the yard and get almost $30 back.

It's raining today...and this is an outdoors project for me. I got everything I need (I think) and it looks like it might have to wait for next weekend. Argh, this is taking too long.
