Why am I burning oil? (compression numbers are fine)
1989 honda d15 (civic dx)
Compression last year ~ 195 190 180 190
Added bardhal during the winter
Compression this year 210 210 200 210
and trust me I've been beating the absolute ******* **** out of this engine (was planning on swapping)
I ran a leakdown last year and didnt have anythingsignificant...cyl 3 had 20% loss but thats about it.
The only thing I can thing of are the valve guide seals...anyway I can be certain?
Oil consumption is about 1.5 lt / 1000km

Just a thought.</TD></TR></TABLE>
Exactly, your oil ring "may" be gone, but in most cases it is valve seals. Plus theyre the simpler of the 2 to replace. And theyre really not that hard, just time consuming.

do you own the leakdown tester or did you just have it done by somebody else last year?
If you own it, you can listen for the air leaking out either through the dipstick or through the oil cap.
Also, when is it burning oil? Can you see it smoke at stop lights but not when driving? That's normally a sign that your valve stem seals are gone.
If it smokes all the time of just during driving then it's commonly the rings.
You can get good compression, have good seals, have goor rings, BUT have warped cylinder walls.

I borrowed one...but I couldnt tell where the air was leaking from. I could hear it through the oil filler.
The car doesnt burn much at idle it just smells a bit oily. It stinks really bad at high rpms but barely smokes.
