Default Rookie's Take on Beaver Run this weekend

First and foremost, Honda Challenge rules !!! You guys are so friendly and competitive at the same time. In the paddock it is all nice, on the track, it is intense. The funny thing, I never felt worried about any of you guys. Even if I was being rushed from behind I never felt nervous. I hope I didn't hold anyone up or do anything odd (I am in H2, the slower yellow ITR ) Please tell me if I did anything, and I will correct it the next time out.

My results:

Saturday:
Luckily, I qualified well (10th out of 30 cars). The race was in the dry, thankfully. I finished 8th and 2nd in class. I got a trophy for 2nd place... woohoo! My goal was met, I was only a few tenths behind Jason.
Sunday:
It was dry and the track was FAST ! It is amazing how comfortable you get and being out of control in a car. I qualified 10th again. However, I put older tires on my car. They were fast for qualifying and practice...however during the race I had multiple problems which caused me to drop back and finish 13th and 4th(last) in class.
Problem 1: I need better mirrors, it is hard to see people right next to me. I think I got hit once or twice, my wheels are scuffed and I have a mark or two on the car. I didn't notice it during the race.
Problem 2: It was so hot that I was sweating in my eyes. I was trying to wipe my eyes, under my helmet. At times, I was driving with my eyes closed. Yes, not that safe. All this at race pace. I have to fix this problem. Driving blind is not too much fun, but interesting. I got passed by many cars because I just had to slow down.
Problem 3: Note to myself => if the car cannot stop well or is sliding more than normal something must be wrong. When I got back to the paddock after the race, I looked at my front passenger tire. About 1/3 of the rubber is gone. Yes, I was driving on the carcass and the tire was beyond corded! Oh well, live and learn. :-)

Next time I should hope to do better.

Racing is definitely a dream come true. I am a lost for words at how much I enjoyed this past weekend!

You guys are hilarious !

Thanks for the compliments. Every lap of the race I learned something new. Watching Jason was great...well for a few seconds at least I forget the name of the driver, but there were two H4 cars that were ridiculously fast. It goes to show you that power doesn't necessarily equal speed.

I don't want to jack Dave's thread but there is not much to say. I was a bundle of nerves on Saturday and extremely gun shy. Sunday felt a whole lot better, but both days I had issues with my VTEC controller jumping VTEC up to 7000 from 5400. no idea why. Overall I had a blast and hopefully I'll have a bit more confidence going into the SP event with a track I'm more familiar with.

Great Thread Dave... thanks for the perspective.

I can't wait to finish getting my car together! Though I'll probably do at least a few HPDEs first, and try to get signed off for HC next year.

Suit, etc. - check
SCCA permit - check
Car - check
Truck - check
Trailer, and lots of stupid little things still to do - I'm gettin' there.

Anton,

The brakes worked well.

yeah, the oil pan will be shipped to you, sorry I didn't get a chance to tell you. This was my weekend and week...
Friday work in the morning, go home, pick up truck, drive to Long Island, pick up Dan, drive back home, pick up race car, pack up everything, drive to Beaver. Get stuck in hour+ of traffic on the way to Beaver. Race all weekend. Pack up on Sunday, drive all the way home. Get in around midnight. Get up at 6am, goto work at 8am, find out at 9:30 am that I had to be in Bermuda. Go home by 1pm, pack, eat, get car service get to airport. Delays at airport and don't get into Bermuda until 11pm. Now it is Tuesday. This is normal for me So, I didn't get a chance to talk to you about the oil pan or the race I'll be home this weekend. we'll talk.

Absolutely understood and no problem, when I saw you were on your way to Bermuda I contacted Chad and got the lowdown.

Can't wait to talk about it all though.

Busy? Sounds like my work schedule just about, but you travel places. I just do all those hours in one spot.

Later D and again congrat's
