Not really OT, NE track whores take a look: A New track in the planning stages for Millville N.J.
Caught this while scanning the NASA forums for HC news and results:
http://www.thedailyjournal.com....html
It looks to be of the same concept and style as some other newer "Country Club" style tracks built recently IE; http://clubmotorsports.com & http://www.barbermotorsports.com/ which seem to be catching on and on and becoming All the rage recently. Or maybe thats just how I see it.
It is still in the planning stages and reports a potentially agressive opening schedule 2006. Plus it's also getting some bad response and press by locals against it who are reportedly the same people against the idea of a NASCAR track proposal in the past.
Here is a posted Email and a link to an unofficial vote for or against the track project being polled by the local Journal News paper:

We are trying to build a speedway here in South Jersey. Things were going real well until some "do gooders" loaded up the polls last night. I figure if they can dirty up this vote against a speedway maybe I can help the yes vote! Please take a few minutes and go to the web site and vote YES for our speedway!
PLEASE GO TO THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE HOME PAGE IN THE VERTICAL COLUMN AND VOTE YES FOR THE PROJECT.

YOU CAN ASK THEM TO LOOK AT THE PROJECT WEBSITE NJMOTORSPORTSPARK.COM TO LEARN ABOUT THE PROJECT. IT IS A 70% OPEN SPACE PROJECT THAT WILL CREATE 1500 JOBS IN A COMMUNITY THAT IS STARVING FOR EMPLOYMENT AS A RESULT OF THE GLASS INDUSTRY LEAVING US. IT IS LOCATED ON THE SAME PROPERTY AS OUR AIRPORT. IT ALSO INCLUDES A 4 YEAR COLLEGE MOTORSPORTS ACADEMY PREPARATORY BOARDING SCHOOL.

Opinions? Comments?
I can totally understand and respect a local communities opinion. I also know the history of Limerock and how they dealt with the local concerns and issues, as per noise restrictions and limited racing days (Never on Sunday).
Curious to see what some of you will say and if you'd take the time to vote on this unofficial poll? I didn't because it's Not my community.

A 4.1 mile course not far from home... mmm sounds good to me
I hope it all goes thru, and if its anything like VIR I'll be impressed.
But with the poll so close it might be hard...

Edit: I think that anyone that might use the track should vote even if you dont live in the nearby community. Obvoiusly for something like a motorsports park they cant expect just the local community to use it. So if you might use the track then vote to show interest. When the plan goes to official vote by the board or community, they will see that interest and decide if it is economical or whatever for their community. Just my 2 cents.

Guys, we need everyone to vote "Yes" in that poll here!: http://www.thedailyjournal.com/
It's not an official poll or anything like that, but if the local Millville government sees that they may run into major opposition, the project may be dead in the water. So every little bit of support helps!
When I first saw that article and poll, the poll results were over 80% "Yes" in favor of the motorsports park. Apparently since then, the opposition has mobilized... So we need everyone's vote in support - whether you live in NJ or 3000mi away - Vote YES!
Vote early and vote often!

A hint of how intense the battle could become appeared when we received several calls over the weekend about The Daily Journal's online poll (www.thedailyjournal.com), which asked readers whether they support the construction of the motorsports park. We wondered about it, too, considering that more than 5,099 votes were counted (59.9 percent for building it and 40.1 percent against), far outdistancing any numbers tallied in the dozens of unscientific polls we've run before last week.
People questioned the poll results, and supporters of the plan openly wondered whether opponents were somehow manipulating the results.
Those questions will be addressed in Saturday's On The Record column. Our concern now is the danger that supporters and opponents of the plan are forming entrenched positions. This would threaten productive discussion of the issues.
Supporters of the New Jersey Motorsports Park say the raceway, country club, conference center and hotels will bring more than 1,500 jobs and much-needed tax revenue to the city. It could be an attraction used to boost tourism in downtown Millville, not to mention the go-karting track and ATV trails to benefit local riders. And, they say the racetrack resort will preserve 70 percent of the open space on the 707-acre site, most of which lies within Millville Airport boundaries.
Opponents, however, say not so fast. What about the environmental impact of the racetrack? What about the noise pollution for nearby residents? Can city roads handle the additional traffic? Handling traffic for one weekend a year at the Wheels & Wings Air Show is a far cry from dealing with year-round traffic increases the project would bring.
Those who adamantly oppose the project for environmental reasons most likely will never sit down with the developer and city officials to address the concerns. But we believe that the developer, city leaders and concerned residents should, together, take a look at their issues and address them realistically.
By so doing, we can avoid potential noise and traffic headaches in the future and have a racetrack resort that will benefit the city and residents for years to come.

Votes can EASILY be manipulated in that online poll (cookies duh!) and should NOT be an indication of the ACTUAL support or opposition to the project. I just hope the planners and people making the decisions are aware of such things.
That being said, I think the only real concerns the local people have are the additional traffic and noise pollution. In that case, I think they should use Etown as an example. Obviously it depends on the area in question, but Etown isnt overrun with ridiculous amounts of traffic during events. As far as noise goes, I guess that will just depend how close residents actually life to the proposed park. And if this used to be an airport, I wouldnt think it would be any louder than jets and planes flying overhead.
