Default d15b vtec n/a build questions

first, im building the bottom end of the stock dx d15b7 hopefuly to a 1.7, as for right now im looking for info on a good cam, gear and wondering if a fields vtec controller will help anything right now. ive heard the d15b cam is almost comperable to a comp 59300 cam, is this true? i want to get this thing as far as possible because everyone around here goes dohc, not that i have a prob with that, but everyone tells me im wasting time with the sohc, and i spent alot of time putting some of the dohc vtec guys to shame around here, and i want to prove them wrong, also how does this head respond to a port and polish, and possibly the IM? also going to go with a ls tb, ive heard this is a good upgrade. i need as much help with this as possible as im not sure what this motor responds too the most. what exhaust size should i be running? a test pipe or a high flow cat, and i heard 2.25" is good for exhaust let me know.

I have a ported manifold z6 manifold same has the d15b sohc vtec with a 60 mm throttle body.https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=877515. The manifold/throttle body combo totally changes the d15b sohc vtec. That stock manifold/throttle body kills top end. 2.25 inch is a good size for exhaust.

Depends on the amount of money your willing to spend. For example, If your looking for the cheap route (like I did) I got a D16Y8 manifold ,which is looked at as the "type R" intake manifold for D-series, and port matched (and polished) it to a 95 GSR TB(which I also polished). Or get the Edelbrock/AEM intake combo which recieved a great review. Made something like 20 hp supposeably. I didn't see the head your using, but the title mentions Vtec. I think the Z6 is the most recommended, and it raises the compression to around 10:1. adding p29 or ZC pistons then bumps you to around 12:1.(If I remember correctly)
Here read this and go through the links in his signature and you'll find alot of info https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=385741

I paid $75-80 for mine. But i'm sure you could get one cheaper. And it bolts right up.

It's been proven the y8 losses power. Check out sohchonda.com and ask around. Lots of people are making more power with the z6
