Default Quickest N20 FWD Powered Honda?

Hi,

What is the quickest FWD Nitrous only powered Honda? (No Turbo, SC etc). A few years ago my friend Dave was running 11.30s with his Street/Strip Civic with a 24.5" slick and skinnies. Car was around 2050lbs at the time.

I also know there was a guy in Quebec running an oldskool prelude and I think he was in the low 11s, maybe even a 10 last year...

Just wondering what had been done with just nitrous.. I'm sure a Nitrous only Honda could be capable of high 9s if setup correctly. Heck, I've seen a 1700lb All-Motor car with 212 hp run 11.50s and I'm sure you could get 350hp+ from a Nitrous powered LS/VTec or B18.

I think the main factor would be weight and traction. Here is what I have discovered so far from my search of sanctioning bodies.

NCRA (Canada) - 1700lbs for a Nitrous only FWD
CSCS (Canada) - 1700lbs for a Nitrous only FWD
NHRA (One power adder) - 1900lbs - Hot Rod
NOPI (One Power adder) - 1800lbs - Pro 4

A friend and I were talking about this on the weekend and I figured I would do some research and see what ya thought.

Thanks!

I would like to know this too...Im aiming to be the quickest, but Im figuring on 400hp not 350. The quickest one I have read about was the 11.3 you spoke of...but Im pretty sure that the foward motion Neon went high 10's on a 250 shot. Not a Honda I know but a 4cyl FWD.

What setup do you plan on using to make 400hp? Also, what is your car setup? Is it Street/Strip or full race?

I figured 180hp on the motor with bolt-ons and 175 from the juice.

Later!

what do you mean by "dieing", do you mean you're losing Bottle Pressure?

Cool.. Are these full HotRod style race cars, or just street/strip cars?

So is 10.80s the best out there?

it was a street strip car. bottle pressure was falling off. the car had a stock bore gsr motor with pistons rods and cams. nothing serious. i'm in the middle of building a nos motor for my street ek. 85mmx89mm gsr motor. around 12.1 to 1 compression and some stage 3 skunk cams, and a dual stage kit. hope to run mid to high tens in street trim.

Ive often wondered about building a all nitrous car... to compete with the trubo cars...

It would be alot like IHRA Pro Mods, where you have nitrous only cars running againts blowen cars.

I'm not sure what the optimal compression would be for a 200shot Nitrous LS/Vtec.

I was thinking 10.5:1, but I come from the BP Mazda camp and my old Turbo/N20 engine was 8.6:1 was I might still be a little low.

Every year they have slowed down the blower cars to keep it close. My friend runs a pro mod and I can tell you its extremely hard for those guys to run what those blower cars run. I am not saying thats its impossible but when you use a lot of nitrous on a fwd its really hard to over come the traction issues. Rwd cars have weight transfer, big tires, and slipper clutches to help get the power to the ground.

My friend Dave had Kurt's old Intake Manifold/Direct Port and one of his heads on his (Dave's) 11.30 nitrous car.

I think the key to a Nitrous car is going to be progessively controlling the onset of juice..

Exactly my ideas as well... Marc, there was a great artical sometima ago in HOTROD magazine about nitrous, im sure youve read it or heard all the info it it. I dont know if you know who Iam, but I was looking at doing a 125 shot on my H22 Prelude, and I learned alot there. I also learned that N20 can work well with higher compression, just ALOT harder to tune.

BTW... we know alot of the same people... best of luck with the idea of a all nitrous car... Im curious to know how it goes.

I hope my friend and I bulid this project.. My ECU (FJO 341B) has complete multi-stage Nitrous control in it.
FJO (http://www.fjoracing.com) actually builds the progressive nitrous controllers for NX, so I have great faith in having FJO as a sponsor of my current car (Miata)

Only time will tell.. Everything starts with an idea, just have to make it a reality.. I've never been a Honda guy, but helping John over the years on the different racecars and tuning a bunch of Honda's has turned me around.
Nevermind the fact that the people here on H-T are cool!

We shall see what happens..

Yeah.. CrazyKid, we know a lot of the same people..

Later!

Street/strip completely gutted with cut doors and lexan this year...gotta save up for the rear suspension and one piece front. The motor is a gsr, 9:8 pistons, block is stock. The head is crazy, skunk stage 3's, all kinda welding and porting making compresion 12:0 (thanks to headflowresearch.com) ITB's, EFI standalone, with a wet 250 shot plus progressive controller to help traction. A little hint for those who are dying up top with nitrous...use less bottle pressure and more jet...this allows for more consistent pressure through the run. I wish it was a full race car but money is kinda tight without sponsors. Oh yea its an EG, skunk drag springs, and a 4.7/4.9 (have not decided yet) w/gsr tranny.
