I have a tow dolly that has a steering option or locked option (its a kar kaddy II)

Is it better to have it steer or locked?? is is safer locked?

Having the dolly locked will keep the fenders from coming in contact with the side of the car. (don't ask how I know) The downfall is you can't turn as tight.

I have driven with a non-steering homemade tow dolly and definately they are limited to straight towing and broad turns. Also had a odd effect when trying to back it up (tow dollies are hard to back up anyway) but a tight backing yo actually twisted the tongue of the dolly to the hitch nearly 90 degrees. It was really weird and happened a few times. After that experience borrowing that fixed one, I swore if I used one again it would have the swivel on it. The ones that I have seen had a limiter on them to keep the dolly fenders off the car.
