this weekend i drove the worst i have ever driven in my life. and it was all due to the fact that i couldnt get my head straight. a slight altercation with some officials that pissed me off ruined my afternoon. any ideas, tips, ect on how to get ones head back on straight quickly??

I've found that aging 10 years helped me in a general sense. Racing things just don't seem so irritating. Other little stuff pisses me off more - like ill-mannered kids in public places.

In all seriousness, I don't know that there are any "tricks" that can help with this. I have to actually FEEL calm to be calm, and a big part of that is truly caring less.

Just tell yourself you suck and you're going to lose. Works for me.

Spenc I wish I could help you but I've been described by some pretty senior racers as a head case. If anyone figures it out, I wanna hear about it.

Truly care less. Excellent advice.

I think that's pretty spot-on. All the "I don't care's" in the world won't matter at all if you don't actually believe it. I do think that thought follows intent but you cannot will yourself to ignore tension, frustration, aggitation, etc... you just have to actually not be affected by it for it not to eventually affect you if that makes sense. Something my mom told me once about job interviews that might apply, you must always go into it with options. Maybe that's why the folks that say they will lose find that a useful technique, its a bonefide option I just don't think that's the most positive one. Maybe try to create new goals (options) in that situation, you have to actually want to acheive those goals however as I don't think it will help in the end if its just lip service.

Take a nap. Usually helps you clear your mind (although that's a bit difficult when you're running heats at an auto-x).

If all else fails, just go shoot the **** w/ your buddies, or go out and have some food. Dwelling on it won't help at all.

Or. Watch me run. And say "look at that stupid kid who has no idea how to drive RWD and just spun 3 times in one run!".
