Can I get some help from a NoVA Type-R?
Hey,
I'm having a hell of a time trying to get a noise my car is making looked at by the dealers in the area. I have tried both Radley and Pohanaka, and the mechanic dismisses the noise as nothing, and says all Type-R's are noisy. But, I'm sure this noise is abnormal.
So, what I would like to do is take another R owner for a ride, and go for a ride in another R to see if I hear the same thing. (I should have done this while we were at Summit...) Anyway, if someone would like to meet me somewhere this weekend, or some night this week, that would be awesome.
We could even get together at AllSports GP and race some carts at the same time.
Any takers?
Thanks,
David

It is a very faint chatter or rattle, that is most prominent while cruising, and changes character as you go from a slight load on the engine, to a completely neutral state, and then to slight engine braking. It isn't as noticable when I'm under heavy throttle. It has a random-ness that sounds like something loose and is rattling somewhere.
It is noticeable in all gears, and at any rpm, but is most prominent around 3-4K, and goes away when the clutch is pressed in, and comes back when the clutch is released. I can cruise at a low speed, without a load on the engine and press and release the clutch, maintaining a constant rpm, and the sound comes and goes.
My best guess is the throw-out bearing in the clutch.

David, let me know if you didn't get anyone to help you. I'm off on Thursday and will be in Centerville for a meeting around 3pm. I could meet you someplace around there. Email me and we can set something up.

Thanks for the offers, guys. I'm going to meet up with CPR on Wed night, and hopefully I can solve this noise issue once and for all. Although I don't know what I'll do if his car makes the same noise. Then we'll both be paranoid.

I think I've gotten over the noises that I hear from my car. Maybe except for the clicking noise that I think is associated with the clutch.

We are meeting tomorrow might (Wed) at 7 near Reston Town Center. You guys are welcome to join us. We plan to meet in the corner of the parking lot closest to Reston Parkway and New Dominion Parkway.
We can go from car to car listening to weird noises and feel better when it is something that all our cars are doing.
And yes, my clutch makes that clicking sound sometimes too, but it hasn't done it for a while.
I won't be in the office tomorrow to read any replies, but come on out if you guys want.

I'll try to get directions to the town center and TRY to make it out there. If not, hope you get it figured out!

By "engaged" do you mean when the clutch is in contact with the flywheel?
The sound does go away when I press the clutch pedal in. Or, if it doesn't go away completely, it atleast changes the character of the sound.

If ceas owned a gun i would laugh, " yo that guy with the tiger print hat is packin"..i would laugh, but wouldnt mess with him for nothing. yeah i have that clicking sound too, just before the clutch is fully depressed or when im engaging it.

1.) The first is when I shift into first and I let the clutch out slowly. I hear a click, at which I'm guessing, is the initial point at which the clutch is engaging.
2.) The second is when I'm in 2nd gear and I'm slowing down to a stop. The only pedal I'm pressing is the brake pedal. As with any car, there comes a point where the car slightly jerks back and forth when slowing down and still in gear. It is during those slight jerks that I hear the clicking. You guys know what I'm talking about? This pretty much disappeared after I got my 15k miles service yesterday.
So anyway, enough about my problems. Who's planning to meet up at Reston?
Here's a helpful map, for those familiar with the area...courtesy of Floyd.

Ok, nevermind the picture. Here's the link.

Well, CPR and I met up tonight and now I'm not sure what to think.
The sound I was hearing was also aparent in his car, though it wasn't as pronounced.
And CPR's clutch is definately making some weird noises.
The only thing I'm sure of is that we need a bigger control sample for this science experiment we've got going on.
Anyone interested in meeting up this weekend at AllSports?

I'm good for Saturday.
The place is in Sterling. Cascades, actually. It is an indoor kart track that is a lot of fun. Here's a link. http://www.allsportsgp.com/ We normally do one or two 10 min lapping sessions.
Victor, do you want to start a new thread? I will be out of the office again tomorrow...
