Default Got my 62404 cams in today!!

Ok its a b18b1 with stock pistons, got all the bolt ons, cam gears, fpr and gen1 S-AFC. Mild port with 5 angle job and milled 20 thou. Cpu is chipped so that the rev limit is 8500 but I wont push it much past 7k rpm's anyway. So far i've found the idle is really good even without tuning the AFC it idles. If I lower the fuel at 800 rpm it gets even better. It really pulls after 4000rpm and the sound is pretty impressive as well. I'm going to try and make a short video soon so people can see that these cams idle pretty good. Won't even stall with the A/C on. The valve setting is .006 in and .008 ex for these cams so the ticking is very loud but you can't hear it over the engine once you punch it. I've also noticed that the brake feels a little harder because there is less vacuum but it stops the same its not at all bad. I'll keep you updated, hopefully ill hit a dyno soon.

Anyone else have 62404 setup? Just wondering how well it went and if it also ticks quite a bit.

haha thats 164 hp around 6500 rpm.Thats ******* amazing.Remember a itr makes its whoping 170 hp at 8k.So with his head flowing good and good enough bottom end too handle 8k.I bet you could see 180 hp with those cams.

don't forget to mention the all important torque!

Something a lot of vtec boys tend to forget about.

I just got mine put in on Friday. Similar set-up, all bolt-ons but I haven't had my head milled.

It idles fine, i have the fuel pressure set at 43psi, and set the afc to like -23 at idle and it's almost like stock.

it ticks pretty loud, louder than before, but not all that bad. It's reall sluggish before 2000rpm, ok after that and really starts going after 4000rpms. And I totally feel a mid-range increase from like 2500-4000.

It's going to be tuned after work today.

p.s. I have to say the bad idle for the 404's has been blown WAAY out of proportion. They DO NOT sound like a harley, they do not stall, they're absolutely fine. Has me wondering qhy I didn't get the 405's.

I agree on that one, if its not running right it wasn't installed right.

It seems to run rich at idle even with the afc tunned down a bit. I get these little black puffs of smoke out the back at idle.

i had mine tuned yesterday, with my fpr at 44psi i had to lean out to -26 to -32 at 1000rpm to be around 14.7 a/f ratio at idle.

It pulls the same after 4k up to 7400. Its really nice, from 2500-3000 there is this crazy sound from the air filter a really deep tone i've never heard before.

Nice, post up a chart after you get it tuned. I've always liked the 404's but I never heard anything about the brake issues. I would suggest maybe a 2 layer headgasket and a small mill on the head to get you up to 9.8:1. The loss in cranking pressure isn't that much with these cams, but 9.2:1 is far from ideal.

I did shave it 20 thou and thought about a 2 layer gasket but didnt end up doing the gasket. Also I havent adjusted gears yet so I guess its kinda retarded right now due to the milling.

The idle will be a little rougher after tuning. It's lopey, but it feels stock inside the car. I'm anxious to see another dyno of a B18b w/404's as Ross has a freak motor.

I had mine installed and tuned with stock CR, just a temnporary thing till I can afford the headwork.

Hit 137whp on a dynapack, 104ft-lbs, before the cams I hit 128whp/124ft-lbs on a dynojet, BlueTeg had 152on a dynojet and hit 135on a dynapack, so I think I'm probably around 155whp or so on a dynojet.
