speed channel is making me sick.
i used to love speed vision, then it all went wrong. i can tolerate the nascar and sometimes even watch the oval track races but it is getting so infested with useless things. who in the world is "sony recording artist kazzer" or whatever his name is? these guys don't even wear seatbelts. if i have to hear michael waltrips voice again ... . the touring cup is shown like once a year it seems at 4:30 a.m. on thurs. .then they went overboard with the date a racecar driver thing. it's horrible. will we ever get it back? i know this is sort of OT but i needed to vent. delete if necessary.
for those of you without speedchannel, bang your monkey. if you don't listen to jim rome that means call your local cable provider. i also found this ont he speedchannel site.

Picture a time when there was NO road racing on the tube at all, bar the annual ABC Wide World of Sports coverage of the Monaco F1 race. Before SPEED came along, I saw ONE show with rallying coverage in the US - and it was a regional weekend magazine called "Exploration Northwest."
Just turn it off if you aren't happy.

Sure there is way too much A$$CAR on Speed. Sure their original programming (Sport car rev, tuner xform, etc) is beyond lame, but most of the core race coverage is still there. Just avoid the channel like the plague during the week.

I'll be watching all of those. Isle of Man TT was nice too. As for roundy-round racing, I must sympathize with the topic starter. Boring, boring, boring, but sponsors, sponsors, sponsors! And what about Speed Racer? Their Formula One coverage is quite extensive, but no match for that Hooter's Cup;-)
Get a DVR/Tivo.
It's amazing how a couple of well defined "wishlists" can make your TV viewing experience a pleasure. Seriously, I won't ever live without one again.

yes, i do appreciate having it, and watch what is there to watch. i just don't understand why they sold out to fox. that was the last place i thought i'd see some reality based dating game. i guess it's not only speed channel, but tv in general.

I think the FCC passed a new law that every channel MUST have at least 1 "reality" type program every season. It must be dating, makover or eating-weird-stuff related.

Yeah, I could do without all of the NASCAR, but what's even worse are the televised radio shows about NASCAR. I really don't see the point, as there isn't much quality in the audio content of those shows, let alone the video of the idiots babbling. And don't even get me started on HiRev Tuners and Tuner Transformation.
But they do still have some good programming... I love being able to watch Speed World Challenge and Formula 1. I also like Sports Car Revolution, except that the Kazzer guy is an assclown... if I wanted to see some no talent moron beat on cars and act like he knows it all, then I'd go to the nearest high school's parking lot. It's funny how the show is anti street racing (as it should be), but they show Kazzer being a dumbass on the street.
But the rest is good... well, except for the dyno segment sometimes. All in all, I still TiVo it.
The only problem with TiVo is that most of the racing is called "Auto Racing", so you can't simply get a season pass or you'll end up with 50 NASCAR races for every 2 World Challenge races. I guess at least they gave Formula 1 it's own title...

Don't blame Speed channel. Look at the person next to you and blame them. Then call a couple of friends and blame them.
Pretty much every network out there has dumbed down and stupidified their programming to appease the masses. Reality TV (which is super ironic given the actual lack of "reality" in reality TV) is really, seriously ******* everything up. Every channel feels they need shows like this in order to stay competitive. Why? because your next door neighbor and co-worker apparently LOVES this mindless ****. When channels like Discovery and TLC (the "intelligent" channels) are loading up on shows like this crap, we're doomed.
Automotive shows??? Back in the day you got some guy with a beer gut and grease under his nails standing next to a sweet car while telling you what makes it work. That was apparently pretty boring because now, you get jump cuts, "Sony recording artist Kazzer," and that ******* moron on "Tuner Transformation" that has never seen a 323 GTX and is labelled as the "Graphics Specialist." Excellent stuff. Thank GOD for Alain D.
So all Speed is doing is playing the game by its current rules. Want the rules changed? Figure out how to get the general public to tweak their attention span and get tired of lowest common denominator TV. Thats all you have to do.
In the meantime I'll keep watching the good stuff on Speed and ignore the crap. You still have things like Mr. Grist telling you all about the special stages and why who did what and where, and that is certainly worth something. When they replace Alain D. with Puffy or Bam Margera... I'm done. You can look me up in my log cabin somewhere in the Appalachians
Scott, who pretty much watches nothing but sporting events on TV these days because everything else is warm, steamy ****.

If you have a TiVo brand DVR you can use the "Wishlists" function to capture certain types of racing. I have an auto-record setup for "World Challenge" and "Touring". It will search the text description for those words. Setting up a season pass on "Auto Racing" is asking for a NASCAR meltdown.
Anyway, am I the only one that can't stand the scripted bs that the guys on American Chopper have to read to the camera? I'd be happy with some decent music in the background while they build the bikes.

That's cool, I didn't know I could do that. I still haven't played with the new features from the last few updates. I'll have to set that up... Thanks for the info.

I was sent an email by one of our Slide Rule Cup sponsors, Tim Suddard of Grassroots Motorsports Magazine in regards to a thread that was started on their site. The thread talks about the validity of having a show hosted in part or produced in cooperation with the guys at GRM. Not only is GRM a sponsor but in my mind THE best sport car magazine!

There is a very interesting thread on [the] Speed Channel message board. It concerns the idea of getting more sports car type racing and restoration programming on Speed Channel. Naturally, we support any increase in programming on our kind of cars.
The folks at Speed Channel indicated that they do listen to what viewers say on the message board. To this end, I would urge each and every one of you to check this thread out and please respond. The more of us that respond, the more chance that our voices can be heard above the din that is NASCAR racing in this country.
