First thing to do is check if you have enough coolant. Second thing is to check if the fans are working. All your doing by turning on the heater is using the heater core as a extra radiator.
i guess i forgot to mention, it only happened when i was on a pretty long drive home after getting the car... since then ive drove it around town and stuff and it hasnt overheated, but ive kept the air on hot...
the fans only turn on at certain temperatures, they shouldn't be on all the time unless you make them do it.. but then you're just draining power.. bleed the coolant and you should be fine
you might wanna check your headgasket because it might be blown, or it could be your cylinder thats cracked like sleeves and stuff! but yeah, you might wanna check on that because it happen to most all of my friends civics and integras!

that was my problem too,
that was my problem too,
I have sorta the same problem, in idle my fan does not seem to ever turn on, I replaced the fan relay switch and it worked for like 2 weeks and now again it is over heating. I don't know what to do. when I start to drive it cools off. It also goes down with I rev my motor in idle, why is that?
well its strange that over the past week of driving it hasnt overheated at all.. when i ran it without the cap thing like 2 bubbles came out in like 5-10 minutes... i hope none of the cylinder walls are bad... it is a b20/vtec after all
....and i got smoked by an ls

Witih the information that you've provided to us, there is no reason to jump to conclusions on a bad headgasket, or cracked cylinder wall.
Hopefully you're problems are fixed.

if you ever have the overhating problem again, forget the head gasket and cracked walls, if it was a bad head gasket it would bog at startup and if it was a cracked wall or sleeve you would see a lot of white smoke. you can check the thermostat by letting it run to normal temp then checking to see that both the upper and lower radiator hoses are hot, if not the thermo is stuck. flush it with some preston super flush and/or super cleaner, put a 60/40 or 70/30 mixture of coolant /water in the system, rebleed it, top it off, and if it still does it THEN you have a problem. but those 2-3 bubbles could've been the problem, you absolutely have to bleed the system every time you do something to it, 2-3 bubbles could mean 2-3 grand in the long run

u might just have a small crack in the radiator, the oem plastic ones blow out after a few years. my 97's blew out at like 57k, it was really freaky because my temp. gauge was reading all the way to the H
. Scary as hell driving like that.

this happened to me b4 i dont even know whats wrong with it and i poped da hood smoke came out hella from the tranny so i took it back to the dealer and they fixed it with no problem
I agree with G1_Teggy. Do as he says, but also check the radiator carefully. In my car I had a similar problem. I had a blown head gasket that was causing water in the oil, but it didn't cause overheating. What caused the overheating was the person who owned the car before me added an additive into the radiator that was supposed to help the head gasket. Instead it clogged the radiator. I replaced the radiator and the problem was solved.

im curious do all ur fans turn on as well? cuse i currently wit my integ and i am gettin it fixed it is a 55 dollar part i believe from the dealer... 1st i though my temp sensor was gone ... which it wasnt i wasted 20 bux ... then after a lot of trial and error i learned it was just that i needed to replace the little switch sensor thing that turns on both fans when it is needed (also when i turned on AC the temp went to normal) ... forget the name but o wells...
also i hav a 1990 Integ
