Default Clunking/knocking noise under load...

Hi guys. I did a bunch of searches on this and got it narrowed down to detonation, bad rod bearing or tranny problem (so I don't really have it narrowed down..). Anyways I hace a b16a w/CTR pistons and valvetrain/OBD1 converison tuned with hondata. When I let out the clutch in first I get a clunking noise for the first 1-2k rpms. Now if I'm in motion and I'm in the low RPM range and I give it gas I get that same clunking/pinging type noise. It goes away once I get above 3k RPM's.

Ok - now I thought that maybe I had some bad gas so today I filled with good 91 octane. (Can't get anything higher here). Noise is still there. I dynoed the car and didn't notice anything funny like I would with detonation. Spark plugs are black/burgundy. No white spots or anything.

Now - what could be causing this? My other friend with the exact same setup says he has this noise too. He doesn't seem to worried about it - but it is driving me nuts. Anyone else with this problem? Please respond.

Sounds like ''detonation'' try retarding your distributor timing a little.

its not rod knocking because it would only get louder/faster at 3k rpm not only last until then...

probably just need to do what the guy above me suggested. that or advacning it all depends on your setup and what u have it at now but dont do it without a timing gun on high comp motors u can **** your **** up that way.
