touge??
I've done some with my friend in the San Berdo mountains and some close by my city.. It's quite interesting
! Only thing I can reccomend is accelerate out of turns? An upgraded suspension helps immensely, before with stock suspension I could hear massive tire screech, and the back end sliding a bit.. Now, i can't even make my tires squeal at taking a turn at 50 (no joke).

o forgot.. i should lay down my technique too since i did started this thread. i usually brake late and hard right before a turn, and have my rear weight shift to the outside of the turn as if i am swing it out. then use accelerate hard out of the turn to prevent the rear from fish tailing. thats my way of racing. the disadvantage of this is its really hard to maintain your line if you didn't attack the corner correctly and when you start to drift off due to understeer, it makes it hard to correct. my shock setting is stiffer in the rear, and softer in the front, but the difference between the front and rear isnt by much.
i hear some tire squeeling, but its a "happy squeel" according to the guys at mazda rev it up. means your pushing the tires to its potential, but not to the point of losing control.

thats why u go touging at 3am in the morning
...
i m not saying its better than autox. and personally i would rather race legally and risking anyone's life including myself, but on an autox, you're not going fast enough and on the track, the turns aren't sharp enough ( let along the $100+ price tag to run).
just be smart, do it safe, learn to stay in your own lane, and don't be doing long 15 min runs at a time ( if you don't crash, the cops will probably get you)

i know what you mean. suspension mods gives you more control, so you get more traction, but it also gives you the opportunity to go faster. so the faster you're going, then again, you have just exceeded what your mods can offer you in terms of handling.

my technique goes something like this:
-brake early, brake hard
-enter the turn, constant velocity
-after passing the late apex, accelerate
sometimes, I'll do some deep trail braking then accelerate at the late apex. I find this to be a little aggressive, so I keep to the first method. Just be careful out there.

I used to go to the local mountain roads with a couple of friends late at night but not anymore. Where do you guys go, and where are you located anyone in the bay area?

Here's some tips to touge:
-Make sure to drift around the corners (should see smoking rear tires)
-get as close to the guard rail as possible
-use the gutters like a railroad track to speed through the inside
-fall of the side of the cliff
spirited driving is one thing but touge is
(guess no one reads the warning on the videos)

I remember reading the article in some American Magazine. I knew it would catch on. Just sad that too many people have already killed themselves.

i know its a dangerous sport and a little mistake can cost you your life, but can anyone think of a better alternative to race on similar roads: twisted with hairpins, and an opportunity to shift a range of 2nd to 4th gear without going over 90mph on any one stretch of road?
for all those guys hating on touge, how do you guys feel about sports bikes doing runs through the pass mountains?

Just as Stupid if you ask me. Sure it's fun. Spirited driving on country roads is also fun. Auto Cross is Fun too.
I have lost two close friends to such kinds of stupidity. It's a selfish display of stupidity. What about your family and loved one that you leave behind and all those.
No one ever thinks it will happen to them. Maybe not to you directly but maybe to a friend.
I haven't been on Honda-Tech in a while. About 7 months ago I was nearly KILLED on the RACE TRACK. I'm a good driver by all definitions but Even the best driver can't control the "Other" guy. I did everything I could to protect myself. 5 point Roll cage, 5 point Harness, helmet, you know SAFETY equiptment.
Yah it saved mylife and the fact that there was peramedic and a Helo waiting to rush us to the Hospital.
You life is a precious thing and by no means will I give up racing but running on roads where there is no Saftey or paramedics is just sensless.
