Who designed that Wheel Cylinder?
Seriously, Who was the genious that thought up the location for the mounting bolts? My Left side (driver) Wheel cyclinder has a slight slice in it, it isn't leaking or anything, but I figured I'd change it. Well, I've spent the last 9 or so days replacing my front driveshaft, and it looks like I'd have to take off the entire wheel assembly to get the one nut out. I'm not in the mood for that.
And of course my Helm's, in its infinite detail, never mentioned any of this. God, I hate how that manual is practically useless.
So I'm just checking, I would have to remove the entire hub to get that nut out, no?
1990 CRX HF. (The rears are drums, just in case).

wheel cylinder, as in the drum brake cylinder on the rear axle?
it's two bolts. just remove all of the drum brake pieces... it's cake
if you're talking about the front axle and the wheel bearing... then i'm kinda lost.

Well, I took off all the Drum Brake parts, but the one nut is right up against the Spindle/frame(for lack of a better word). So, to back it out, the entire drum brake assembly needs to be removed, including the backing plate. It has to be removed from behind, but behind the backing plate is the frame.
I don't want to have to take out my backing plate to get a single 10mm nut out...I think that was just a poor design. And worse, I don't think all the cars have this problem, as most instructions have the nuts well out from between the backplate/frame.

I had that same ******* problem when I had to change my leaking unit. I think we just painstakingly backed it out and took forever to put it back on. If I remember correctly we had to put the harder one on first then the other side last. I would have to agree that doing this was a big pain in the *** without removing everything. All we did was remove the cylinder itself....
