New high performance tires available in OEM size - Avon Tech M500
Just a heads up for those of you who might be shopping for tires for your ITR...
Noticed that Tirerack.com has started carrying Avon "Tech M500" ultra high performance summer tires in the stock ITR size:
More info here:
http://www.tirerack.com/tires/...1=yes
They look pretty sweet, W speed rated, and the price is definately right - $71 each for 195/55R 15's.
Treadwear is 280, which is a little high, but that means they would probably last a while.
Anybody have any experience with these? Might be another alternative to Es100's/Azenis/Re010's for the stock wheels...

They also have a competition tire - the "Tech R" which is more like a dry weather only, street legal, racing tire:

It will be interesting to see how those new Avon tires will do against other tires in side-by-side testing. I'm sure the Tire Rack will do a comparison test soon.

Wow. I've never seen such streetlegal tires in Europe. DOT requirements are probably softer.

Does anybody have any idea how they compare to Toyo RA-1, Victoracers or Hoosiers?

The new *4 Hoosiers are DOT, too, and they look about the same.

The last time I looked at Hoosier, they were about $30 more expensive than the Avons.
The Ecsta V710's I don't like too much...when they "go" they really go (!!) and I'd prefer tyres to leave me with a little more warning. It's really weird to feel a tyre heat cycle out while you're in the middle of a session.
The Toyo RA-1 I tend to like. Perhaps I'm enough of an amateur that I appreciate the tread life and the warning they give when they're at the limit.

Neither does Kumho. They've been recalled.

In 205/50-15, current Tire Rack prices are $155 for the Avon Tech R, and $177 for the Hoosier R3S04.
Any idea why the Kumho Tech R would be rated B for traction and C for temperature resistance? (Or, for that matter, why the R3S04 would be rated C for traction?) Those are not typical grades for track tires...
