Default Had problems w/ AutoZone axles? Maybe this is why....

I just took my 2 new (rebuilt) AutoZone axles out of the box, and just happened to measure their length and compare to the spec listed in the Helms. They are supposed to be 475-480mm, and my passenger side axle measured over 20mm too short, and the driver side one was about 10mm too short. That means if I were to install them, the inner joint would have to extend out, and would probably extend out too far. If I tried something like a drag launch, they would probably break.

So now it's time to return these and check out NAPA's axles. Good thing I haven't installed them yet

I got both of mine from NAPA because I trust them long before I trust Auto Zone, and they were cheaper too with the core exchange and all.

Alright I got some axles from NAPA, they're the exact same ones that AutoZone sells, same box and same part number and everything. They brought out an axle for each side of the car, and I measured them. The driver side one was fine, but the passenger side one was still too short, and also had some grease on the outisde. So they took that one back and brought out another one, and it appears to be good. Spec calls for the axles to be about 18.75" and both of mine are within about 1/4" of that, so I should be good, since that inner joint moves in and out anyway as the suspension moves.

I had a similar problem with my Belkin hub bearings when I got them at Auto Zone. When I had NAPA press them in (they're cheaper at Auto Zone, but NAPA's a machine shop), the machinist told me that someone must have messed up at the factory because the bearing I brought him was not a sealed kind and I should get another one. Well, after a little bit of driving around, it turns out that some are sealed and some aren't because I looked into the bin and through several packages, and some are sealed and some aren't, just have to make sure both sides are the sealed ones, even though both carry the same part number for some reason.
