Default 4th Gen Sunroof Panel in 5th Gen Sunroof (56K Careful!)

Well, I tackled a project today that I've been meaning to do for quite some time. I picked up a 4th gen sunroof panel and successfully fit it into my 5th gen sunroof frame. The panel needs to be painted to match the car and shimmed up to the same height of the roof line, but those will come later.

Wow, they're swappin 4th gen sunroofs into 5th gen's and vice versa!

What made you want to swap the solid metal panel in instead of the glass one? Do you have the glass one up for sale?

Well, I just wanted to have a cleaner look IMHO (when it's painted) and save a bit of weight since the metal panel is lighter than the glass panel.

Eventually I would like to remove the entire sunroof and replace it with a metal panel or new roof (just like the JDM Type S) but I have to find a body shop around here willing to undertake that job.

but from what i know, the 4th gen sunroofs are known to rust. I know that for a fact i had 2 preludes and both of them had real bad rust on the sunroof...

I don't see why it couldn't be functional. I just don't have the harness connected to the motor.

Me and BDB swapped panels, so both of us only paid shipping costs (as opposed to the several hundred dollars for the CF piece).

The panel I sent him had been under my bed for the last 3 years, and was in rust free condition. I dont think its a daily driver, so it probably wont be a huge issue.

It looks like you modified the slider brackets. . .maybe slotted the stud holes?

Glad to see you get her mounted!

Thanks man, I'm glad it worked out for you too! All I had to do was slot the bracket holes and use some washers to lock it in. I still have to paint the panel (obviously) and shim it up to the same height as the roof.

Rust is not a concern since my car is not a daily driver.

The CF panel, although expensive, will most likey be worth to price to some. It should be a nice piece when it's finished.

I was considering slotting the brackets, but was worried about alignment if I ever went back to stock. I removed 4 of the 8 mounting tabs, and the fit is close but not perfect. I think I'm going to drill out the holes a little (not slot them) to get some "wiggle room"

It would still be functional if I left it all intact, but the sunroof system has been hacked to remove a bit more weight.
