Honda Civic 1994 DX Non-ABS - Need Information on Halfshaft Change
Greetings,
I'm looking for tips on replaceing the halfshafts of a 1994 Honda Civic DX without ABS. Mr. Chilton can be deceiving so I was just looking for some facts and good advice. I've changed several componets of this car and looking to save some more money by doing it myself. Help would be greatly appreciated!

civics dont have half shafts. maybe you mean axle. and if you mean axles they dont get much cheaper than d series axles.
I just replaced the axles on my 94 dx about 2 months ago, it's pretty easy. I used remanned units from Autozone w/ a lifetime warrenty. If you don't have one, I suggest piccking up a Helms manual instead of the Chiltons that you currently use. The Helms is MUCH better! GL
Take off the wheel.
Take off the axle nut.
Seperate lower ball joint so you can swing the knuckle out of the way.
Pull the knuckle away...it helps to have somebody there with you to hold.
Put a flathead between the axle hub and the tranny and then pry the axle out. Once you hear it click out, grab the whole thing and take it out.
Install is reverse. You may want to replace the tranny seals at this time and/or at least clean the old ones up!
The biggest tip is don't force the new axle back in. Take it slowly and be patient until you hear the snap ring 'click' in place.
And BTW...I've changed many axles with Pep Boys reman ones, never had a problem.
