Lug nuts? What can you tell me about them?
I know that there are different kinds of lug nuts out there on the market...but I'm wondering if each kind of lug nut has its own purpose for a certain type of wheels or whatever. Could someone please tell me the differences? Also, are there combinations of lug nuts and wheels you shouldn't put together?
The reason I'm wondering is cause one of my friends got into an accident while on the highway. The shop he just brought his car to prior to the accident put his factory wheels on the car with some tuner lug nuts...and well he went to his cottage and on the way back...1 of his front wheels came right off the car.
Just wondering if the wrong lugs were used and if that's the case, this could've been avoided.

Yes. Factory honda wheels and lug nuts use an 'acorn' seat (rounded), while aftermarket lugs are 'cone' type (to fit aftermarket rims). If put together, they don't make full contact on the surface of the wheel and can lead to stress failure. Not saying that that's your case, but it's possible.
