need help with tranny info
Hey guys i'm just curious (i've searched and all i find are gear ratios...i dunno what those numbers mean sorry). I know the itr or the b16 tranny is the more desireable of the b series, but how does the ls tranny compare to the gsr and b16 tranny???
depends.
the ITR tranny has tight gear ratios. as in 4400rpm at 80mph. the rpm will be higher in each gear at a given speed, and they'll be spaced close...you'll shift at redline and land at 6500rpm in the next gear for example.
the B16 tranny has less tight ratios...about 4200rpm
the GSR tranny has longer ratios, about 4000rpm.
the B18B tranny has the longest ratios...3500rpm or so at 80.
now, if you are NA, you would want tighter ratios for better acceleration or looser ones for economy.
if you are turbo'd, NO QUESTION you want the B18B as you'll build boost longer in each gear.
with the tighter ratios, you'll be sending more CUMULATIVE power to the ground when accelerating, as you're at a higher AVERAGE RPM. Your peak horsepower stays the same, as does the whole powerband, but the CUMULATIVE power goes up as, for example, you'll have peaked twice by 60 in an ITR versus once in a GSR.
