Default vtec cutoff at 6500

searched for along time, no answer
jsut got my h22 in my eg running. when i drive it, vtec kicks in, but i hit a cutoff at 6500 and my tach bounces. Im gettin a egr code, (runnin a p13) but i dont have everything to hook it up correclty. i also failed my nox by 1500. which i guess means i have carbon buildup. So my freind came over who has a chipped ecu and with that in my car, it ran fine, pulled all the way to redline. So we thought my ecu was bad. so we tried my ecu in his car, but it ran perfect, so we were kinda confused.

then yesterday i was takin it back to the paintshop to get touched up and i got on it, and it ran fine..with my ecu. I was happy thinkin it somehow fixed it self. Tried again 5 minutes later and it took at **** at 6500

my question is what could be wrong? im considering trying some sea foam. i want to figure this out because i am planning on spraying and afraid it will blow if this is not figured out

also my mods are intake, exahust, walbro 190, and a vafc

Had the same prob.

Make sure your car is up to temp, check oil levels,

If those aren't it, then you may want to bring it into the dealership or any honda specialty shop. I hear that a leak in your VTEC filter could cause the same things. But I've never run into it personally.

6500 is "safe" mode or limp mode. How do you know you are getting vtec? You might just be hearing the secondary intake runners.

If you're sure VTEC's kickin in but the rev limit's at 6500, check the wiring for the VTEC oil pressure sensor.

i was wirin up an H22 into an Si w/ a VAFC the other day and after we got the wiring sorted out, it still had VTEC w/ a low rev limit. We finally figured out the connection into the ECU for the oil pressure wire was not good, so we jammed it in good and taped it down and it's been fine since.
