don't have the charts to back it up - didn't need it when I saw what happened when I added the silencer to my Tanabe Racing Medallion {extrememly similar design to the N1)

I dropped 8 peak hp!! No kidding. I do recall Sport Compact Car did do a test on a Blue Civic SI with that being the only mod{with AND without} the silencer. It was 2 years ago - I'll see if I can find the copy & scan it for you....

Hope this helps!

Okay - tooooo freak'n scarey that I knew where in the mag it was & what part of the page etc....found it in the 2nd issue I picked up February 2000 pg 142-159 (a full Civic SI buildup including supercharger). Page 147 has a graph comparing the A'pex to Mugen, but NO graph to compare silencer in/out.

Page 153 - first caption under a pic of the N1 muffler states:
The A'PEX N1 muller has this removable silencer that cut down noise dramatically, but also cut about 8 hp. Even with the silencer, it was slightly louder than the Mugen exhaust

To give you a feel - the TRM that I have is the 2nd loudest (emissions legal) Acura I've heard, but with the silencer in, it sounds like an otherwise stock honda w/AEM intake....

Hope that helps!

What number did it show without the silencer? Gain or lost?

One asks the question "gain or loss?" when the answer had already been stated, "cut about 8 hp". I'm not a brain surgeon but cutting 8 hp would translate to a loss in hp. Furthermore, it doesn't make any type of sense how there would be again in hp by adding a more restrictive element to the exhaust, i.e. silencer.
