OT: How long will my accident record stay on the insurance policy?
**** happened yesterday, I was driving my 86 Civic Si beater on a busy road, and this guy with a 03 350Z on my left, somehow, my left front fender hitted his right front fender and bumper, there is no even a dent on his car, just scratch some paint off.
I was thinking if it's like $500 bucks or so, I will not record to my insurance cause my agent told me my premium will go up at least $200 every 6 mos. But wow, the body shop quoted that it cost at least $2000 to fix the damn Z. I am going to record to my insurance and this is my first ever fxxking accident for the 10 yrs that I have been driving. I am so shame that I broke my record, and I still can't understand why I ran over the lane and hit him.
So, how long will this record stay on my policy?
Now, I just heat Nissan even MORE!!!

Insurance companies typically check back 3 years into your driving record.

They can usually look back as far as they want, but law prohibits them from raising rates based on anything beyond 36 months. This refers to felonies and such.

Typically the check 3 years back, but laws reguarding how far back they can use your history to raise your rates varries. As for progressive, I actually had an at fault accident with a loss valued at $2,500. They didnt raise my rates at all when I renewed my policy. Aparently they assign you points towards a rate increase. Once you get a certian number of points, they raise your rates.
200 every 6 months. Try 2000 every 6 months. They raised mine that much when i got into my first acadent when i was 16.
