That could be a possibility. No serial number sticker on it?

I'm asking because I need new synchros. I just spoke w/ the guy from Prostreet Performance, and he said it doesn't matter which it is until you get to the differential. I'm going to get all new synchro gearing for $450. It comes in gear sets.
SO I have to buy 1,2, & R as one set and 3,4 as another.
Oh well. I 'll essentially have a brand new transmission.

I didn't think that the J1 or S1 came with an optional LSD, only the Y1 or YS1.

That's what I thought too. I have a swap guide that came out in Sport Compact Car Dec. 2000 that shows virtually every JDM/USDM and some EDM Hondas. The things listed are Generation, year, model, country of sale, chassis, engine, displacement(cc), HP, torque, and transmission.
For the 4G SiR ((hatch)I don't know why it designates hatch)it lists '89-'92 which is wierd. It lists a Y1 w/ opt. LSD for the B16a w/ 10.2:1 w/ 158HP@7600/112lb-ft@7000. It also lists a 4G SiR Civic w/ a B16a1 w/ a 10.4:1 w/ 160HP@7600/111lb-ft@7000. This one doesn't show a tranny designation though!? According to the guy I bought the car from this is the motor I have. On my spark plug wire cover it has some Japanese writing and says LSD in blue grease pen. I'll check the tranny today to see if I can see a serial number tag.

I checked this weekend It's a Y1. I was too busy to keep looking for an LSD stamp.
I'll just check whne I pull it. I'm sure it is as my car doesn't bootleg nearly as hard as my buddy's Rex w/o LSD.

Ya, only some of the Y1 trannies had the lsd, and not all of them necessarly had an lsd stamp on it. The Y1 seem to be the most common for syncro's wearing of all the trannies.
J1 and S1 gearboxes never had the LSD option. There was also the very rare 92-93 OBD1 2nd gen B16 that came out of the Integra DA chassis that came with the best of all the cable trannies, the YS1. It shared the same gearing as the USDM YS1, but some had the option of lsd, and the best thing is that parts for the tranny can be purchased at any Honda dealer in North America.

But didn't the SiR Tranny have the best gear ratios?
I know the final drive is like 4.22? as compared to the YS1 that had like a 4.11? The Integra one gives you a better freeway final drive.
What about the other 4 gears? Are they the same or what? I'm getting ready to change out R,1st-4th, and don't want to change my gearing any.
I will be dropping in the larger 5th gear the same time, but I want that one to change.
Damn, transmissions are expensive!

The YS1 has the best gears. Except for 1st gear (which is lower), the ratio's are the same as the late model type R. See the link below:

J1, S1, and Y1 are all 990-91 small spline b series trannies. The YS1 both the ls and gsr versions are large spline, and do not have interchangable parts with the older gearboxes.

That website you sent me shows a S1/YS1 for the 90-93 USDM LS/RS/GS models...
This is where people get the 5th gear to swap into their trannies, right? From the S1?
How much do one of those YS1's w/ LSD generally go for?
