Default broken fitting in the block. help me get it out!!

tonight i was seriously making my last half turn on the fitting that goes in the back of the block where the oil pressure sensor is, and the fuggin fitting breaks. so now half of it is threaded in the back of my block, and the other half is hanging by the oil feed line below my intake manifold. man i fucked up. how can i get the threaded part out of the block? one of my friends suggested putting a screwdriver in the inside of the fitting(cause its hollow) and then trying to turn it loose from the inside? im open to all suggestions. this sucks pretty bad

Go buy an "easy out" tool shouldnt be a problem you'll be okay. just make sure you buy a size that will fit in there snugg.

He can't use an easy out since it's hollow, I would try plyers or vice grips.

Why not use an easy out?

I'm thinking a tool like these... where you drill a hole, or in this case use the existing one, and they are reverse threaded, so as you try to loosen the bolt/fitting/ whatever, they get tighter and tighter until the broken/stuck thing comes out.

Perfect solution in this case, IMHO.

hehe, this is funny your not gona beleive this but I did the exact same thing tonight aswell I think I'm just gona try to use a extractor and see what happens,
I don't think it will be a problem for me sence the fitting I have is made out of brass so its pritty soft and should extract pritty easy..

All I got to do now is get an extracter!!

I still can't beleive we did the exact same thing tonight and were probably both pissed at the same thing!!!

I'll let you know if my fitting comes out..

If you have room, what about needle nose plyers inside it, then open it and keep the pressure on the handle opening it, and try to twist it out.

the fitting is completely flush with the block. its brass and pretty soft, so hopefully it will come out pretty easy. i have to say though that it was definately not the easiest to thread in, like with the torquewrench it went in okay, but i could only get it like 1 or 2 turns max with my hands. now all i need is to get to home depot or whatever and get the extractor, which isnt gonna happen for a while cause i work 10+ hour days untill sunday

newgsr- sounds like we had a bad night haha. good luck with yours, and ill post in this thread if mine came out.

Sporkcrx your crazy. There is no way a needlenose pliers would fit inside and its so tight that if you could it would still never come out. Those style fittings that he broke are tapered, don't feel bad about braking it. It happens. If you use an easy out you can get it out for sure. Get the right size (I want to say #3 for some reason, not sure) Put it in the broken fitting, grab a little hammer or screwdriver or something and give it a little tap. Then slowly twist and remove.

i dont know what i used. but i thought it was called easy out. but it didnt look like that. i bought it at kragen. i just tapped it in with the hammer and then unscrewed it. worked perfectly. i dont know about drilling a hole. how would u get a drill in there in the first place. its more of a boxy shaped. just go to kragen into the tool area. it'll be there.

Where are you guys getting your fittings, sounds like you are having NPT problems, it's a BSPT port.

yup..if u want to use an NPT fitting you need to retap it with a 1/8th NPT pipe TAP...then the NPT fitting will fit in there with no problems..thats what i did anyway

This happened to me just yesterday, I used Easy out, some call it a "removal tool" I just bought a set from Sears yesterday and took it out, it took less than a minute to come out. The entire job took less than 15 mins - very easy

when mine broke i used a small torx bit on a 1/4inch rachet , just got one that was just a little big and tapped it in to what was left of the fitting, came right out and you wount get any shavings in the motor

got mine out too!! i got the extractor bit nice and snug in the fitting, then took a small wrench and turned that **** to the left- it came right out. i was stoked cause i thought i was completely fucked. so with that in mind, i completed my oil feed fitting, but the pressure sensor, when i threaded it back into the back of the brass T, it thread in all the way, but never got really tight. i cant turn it with my hands, but its pretty easy to turn with a socket. i used an assload of liquid gasket on the threads to prevent leakage. i kinda thought it would get tighter. anyway ill keep an eye on it and if i have problems ill prolly make another thread.

edit: i used a pipe cleaner with a little bit of oil on it to clean out any shavings and **** that was in the hole.

The sensor is loose because it uses BSPT threads and you're screwing it into a tee with NPT threads.

interesting. how possible is it for the sensor to come loose, or leak real bad??
