I think AEM makes junk, I just used an A'PEXi Power filter on my stock intake arm. I am very pleased. That "louder" noise is just the resonance in the intake. The only way to know for sure if this intake made your car slower is the dyno.

If it looks fast, it is.

Sorry, I couldn't resist. If anything, it's your throttle response.

SRI are not really the best thing when it comes to performance. They pretty much stuck in hot air due to the placement. CAI intake is the way to go. Try and get an injen RS or the new V2 AEM intake. What other bolt ons you looking at?

The hp differences between SRI and CAI are very minute, and shouldnt really matter too much. The stock AEM filter really blows so you should try and get a K&N asap - that might help. Otherwise make sure everything is clamped down real well on your throttlebody... not sure how much you were expecting to get out of an intake but good luck with that.

First off thanks for the help guys
1.My throttle response?
2.I noticed some black powdery crap in my intake, but I washed it out.
3.My intake is not perfectly aligned on the TB, I can feel that it is slightly off.
4.What about resetting the ecu, what exactly does that do?

umm from all the numerous threads i've read on CAI vs. SRI's, I'm getting an SRI. The whole temperature thing is almost a non-issue, the real reason they might dyno differently is because the CAI has a longer tubing with that hump in the middle of it. BUT, Short Ram's offer better throttle response, which I think would make driving a lot more enjoyable (I'm willing to sacrifice the 1.5hp power surge in the mid-range for it).

So, in conclusion, I have no idea why your car would seem slower, lol. If anything, the throttle response should be better and your car should seem faster, so...from the itty bitty knowledge in my head, i have no clue. I definitely wouldn't dyno it just to find out, doesn't seem worth the money. 3-5 hp in either direction isn't gonna make or break your car anyway.

This Intake

with this box-

Good hp gains with great throttle response and around the price as AEM CAI but well worth for best bang for the buck. thats just my opinion

~Try reseting your ECU.

I don't think it makes any difference at all, I just got it because I didn't have a stock airbox to use. It also sounds cool.

As far as the comptech icebox is concerned, don't buy their short ram, it's a massive waste of cash that could be better spent elsewhere, as long as you still have the stock intake arm. If you don't, and you own an LS/RS/GS/SE, you can always buy the ITR rubber intake arm and hook it up to the comptech box and run a K&N filter. The differences between a CAI and SRI have already been beaten to death here, so if you're still navel gazing over 1 part of a complex system, move on already.

I have the AEM v1 i guess u could call it and it seemed to do wonders, i still have the rubber arm for my stock intake, and i wanted to get a new intake would i be better off going with AEM v2 or just buying the comptech icebox, because i've heard the icebox is so easy to clean and oil since is rite up by the motor?

I notice that I never seem to see people talking about Icemans CIA. I think its design is better then most CIA. I feel this way due to it is made of plastic which is the lowest heat conductive material. I also like that the intake has a gradual cone shape. It creates a venturie affect increasing air velocity. I am a big fan of there intakes. Sell your AEM and look into a Iceman. Just my idea.

I threw out my old AEM short ram and got a Injen Short ram.

The AEM fittment was soooo horibble it kept on rubbing against my ABS lines and then it started to dent it, so out of frustration i just threw it out.

I say if you want good fitment go with Injen because performance is all gonna be pretty much the same.

Also in the summer time (or depends where you live) the engine bay gets alot hotter and your aftermarket intake sucks in hot air from the engine bay which is alot less dense than cool air and results in a decrease in peformance.

I do have to say that I got the upper half of the GSR iceman for free so I fit the short ram part into my stock box. I used this thick foam stuff I use at Acura dampen rattles to seal the end. I then removed all of the lower factory intake, and replaced it with 3.5" flex tube and ran it down just like comptechs Icebox. Free is cool and it works well. Good suction from end of flex tube.

just do what i did.. use the short ram.. get some rubber elbows, go-to a muffler shop and have them bend a custom 3" pipe to attach to the end, for like 10bucks and slap a k&n filter on the end. my filter tucks itself into the little pocket under the corner of the passenger side front bumper accesable by jacking up the front passenger corner and unsnapping the plastic bolts that hold up the splash guard. unbolt all that old stock filter crap under there w/ like 3 bolts.
