is a vtec water and oil pump a must for lsvtec?

nope. all oil pumps are the same. and you just need to match the h2o pump with whatever timing belt ou use. ie. ls pump=ls belt.

All newer b series pumps are the same. I believe 97 or 98 and up. The difference between the older non vtec vs. vtec pumps are the pressure relief spring. The vtec spring is stiffer, and will therefore bypass oil at a higher pressure compared to the non vtec spring.

Use a vtec oil pump and a vtec water pump for an ls/vtec.

so if it's a 94 ls than i would need to switch and get any b series 98+ pumps?

i thought even the newer pumps were different as far as the pressure relief spring in the vtec to non vtec

i just bought a vtec oil pump for my 99' ls soon to be ls/vtec. I've never heard this info b4 about the vtec pumps being the same for 98+.....................

i just checked the acuraparts247.com and sure enough the oil pump is exactly the same (at least same part #) for 99 ls tegs and 99 gsr tegs . I spent $55 CDN on something i don't need, but thankfully my girlfriend's brother is doing the same swap with me but his car is a 94 so he can buy it off me.
