Default Honda newbie looking to build a crx.

Hi. I'm pretty new to the world of hondas, so sorry if my post seems kinda lame. Basicly i'm going to have about $8,000.00 to spend on a new car. I've always liked the crx because it's small/light, and pretty easy to make fast. Anyway, what can I do to that car with that much money (car included in the budget)? I don't drag race so I'm not looking for excessive ammounts of power (i do lots of grip driving though..touge,track etc...). I basicly want a stock b16 or b18, but i don't really know the pros and cons of each motor. I also want to have a good suspension setup, but don't really know what companies to look at. I'd also want all wheel disc brakes, steel braided lines etc. Anyone's input is really appreciated. Thanks.

just to keep it simple and fun

swap a b18a in, get ground control coilover/nice shocks, sticky tires (azenis) and a good clutch

cheap and simple

well... I'd go with the B16 for cost purposes, allowing you to spend more on suspension/paint/whatever..

Figure top price for the CRX itself would be around $3000...

B16 swaps are all over the place for cost, but i'd allot close to $2500 to be on the safe side. Some might say $3000, just in case something breaks that isn't supposed to.

I'd spend the last 2000 on suspension/brakes. If you're going the coilover route, the Tein coilovers have a good rep, and are around $750 or so if you shop around. I'd look into 15" black steelies to save some money, and get some nice H rated tires for about $50 a piece.. If wheels are more of your thing, rota wheels are nice for budget, and if you want to spend more then there are a million damn companies out there.

Suspension companies that tend to get good rep are eibach and neuspeed.

Brakes.. If you get a DX or HF model, swap in Si disc brakes on the rear. The fronts could be a Brembo/Wilwood kit if you want, but some quality pads and some nice rotors would probably hold you for a while. Depends on how hard you drive.

Besides that, any extra money would probably go to misc things that need to be replaced. You could look into an integra seat swap for comfort (if this is to be your daily driver), and maybe a decent budget paint job of your stock color to bring the cars looks back to life.

Hope that helps.. the search feature will be your friend
