Ok so after 3 visits to the ref we are finally legal.

For those who don't know...we swapped a JDM b16a SiRII(XSi) into a 90 Teg.

Here are a few pics

We treated it like it was a b16a3 from a 94 del sol vtec..

so we had to make everything, and i mean everything like the b16a3...we had to run a P30 instead of the PR3 that came with the motor...we had to change the intake manifold and throttle body to that of a 94 del sol vtec and remove the fuel cut solenoid. We had to make sure that the vacs were routed according to AllData's vacuum diagram for the 94 del sol vtec. We also converted from obd0 to obd1.

Thanks

It seems like a ton of work..but while i was doing it, it didn't seem that much...just did little parts at a time...took my time and voila! it was finished and it looked good....You should have a pretty easy time with it going into a del sol and all. I'd get the same obd motor as your car is...it will make things alot easier.

nice gauges..nice setup.. looks like stock. I can't imagine them checking every vac line. It must of only been a few. I also like how they put headers on the sticker. lol

Thanks

Yeah the vacuum diagram from alldata for the 94 del sol vtec had less vacuum lines...it also had one less solenoid...the teg had a fuel cut soenoid that wasn't on the del sol. we had to completly remove that extra solenoid..not just un hook it but take it completly out.

They're pretty **** about that stuff on the visual inspection.

hey congratulation on the bar sticker. I just finished my jdm b18b swap. So far I have switched the intake manifold, and the throttle body with the swap. I know i need to convert it to obd1 and run a p75 ecu (94-95 ls ecu) i believe. Change distributor to obd1, injectors, and run a 4 wire o2 sensor. Am I am missing anything? I need some help to be part of the bar family. lol. I have a diagram from g2ic, on how to wire up the vacuum hoses to the intake mani, so that should get rid of the visual inspection problem. Any help would be greatful, thanks.

Nice

Quick question... my friend and I are getting ready to throw a USDM 98 GSR motor in his EG and want to get it BAR'd and we of course are running into the issue of OBD2. My question is how did the referee check the year for the engine? did he just go by the ECU?

g2homeboi- Yeah..you need to run either a p74 or p75...as for the rest...it sounds like you got everything...just make damn sure the vac's match...try and get a hold of a helms for the vac's..the alldata diagram they used was identical to the diagram in the helms.

SMZ GSR-The first time we were there he looked at the block and saw b16a and was like 'ah yes..this is jdm motor' right off the bat...at the time we were running a PR3 which was a no no because it was never in the US...he asked us what year the motor was and we told him it was a 92-93...but he said he would have to go by the closest USDM 'match' and that ended up being the b16a3 from the 94 del sol vtec.

hm...i kinda rambled there didn't i?

ok...he didn't go by the ecu. He basically took our word for it and saw the obd1 equipment.
He did mention that he would have preferred that we had paperwork on the motor but we didn't have any...he was nice enough to work with us alot.

suprised they did not look at it as a down grade, 1.8 - 1.6 accoding to the book you can only upgrade. but i guess being newer and going from obd0-obdI is far better upgrade even though you went smaller displacement.
great job on being legal, now go install some race only parts.

TDaddy: Thanks for the info. Mind if I ask which ref you went to? The one I dealt with in the past was usually a *****

Very true, Some times you luck out and they'll barely look over it.

sikciv666- It is a ******* pain in the ***..but if you don't go through that process and get pulled over and the cop sees your motor you're screwed...i got a buddy who had a gsr swap in his hatch...got caught and from what he's been telling me it's bad news.

For anyone who reads this...it is VERY easy to switch OBD versions. I just moved here from Oregon and have been looking in what is needed to get a car legal here and it is cake. I can help get this done. I have an computer engineering background and have done many swaps into 89-91 civics w/ obd1 and 92-95 w/obd1 & 2 with no check lights.
