starter motor
If it's just the case that your current starter is dead, you can remove it and take it to a starter/alternator shop to be rewound. When you get it back, it's practically good as new. In the past, this has cost me between $20-$40 -- certainly less than a new unit. Usually, you get a warranty with this work, too.
Removing and refitting the starter is pretty straight-forward, but be warned: some of the bolts are reeaaalllllyyyy looooonnnnngggggg.
Good luck. Should be an easy fix
