Default Compisition of OEM rings

What are OEM rings made out of? The machinist I was working with wanted to know if I was using chrome, moly or cast. He said it affects how he hones the cylinders. Chrome and moly are different? I thought I've heard of chromoly?

chromoly is an alloy blend of steel, not to be confused with what rings are made out of/coated with.

Can't help you beyond that.

OE B18 rings are a steel top ring with a chrome plated barrel face.

The second ring is a napier style (has a cut on the bottom outer edge) cast iron ring.

The oil ring is a 3 piece deal with a expander that waves in and out as opposed to up and down like a Hastings flex vent.

Generally OE Honda rings require a very smooth bore finish as prescribed by the Helms manual.
