Burning oil, no power in vtec...
Well my motor has been back and running for awhile now, but before i do all my work to get it back running right (or at least what i think is wrong with it, i wanted to see all your opinions). First, the car burns a significant amount of oil, about a quart or 2 every 1000 miles, maybe even more. Coolant also burns but only about a cup or 2 every so often.
On startup, and on the first 15 seconds of driving, white /bluish smoke (cant really tell), once the car is in vtec, its alot of black smoke. Im sure thats fuel/oil...
Valve seals are new, and BEFORE i pulled the head, i had good compression in all four cylinders.
COMPRESSION YIELDS 240-245-240-240
Now for my powerband...or lack there of: The car makes "decent" power up to vtec level, once vtec switches over, it flatlines..5500 = 143whp...7000 = 141whp 8000=139whp....
When we adjusted the cam gears we got a 32whp jump from 104whp...
So we assume its the cam timing? and we didnt want to adjust the gears anymore, because we werent sure how far off they were...
Now my question is...when we put my timing belt on, im (99 percent sure) everything was at TDC, and the cam gears were at +1, +1 to make up for the 2 layer head gasket...
Any suggestions..?

Well not blown, but "leaky" My compression after 2 cranks was 150,150,150, 180...
TWO cranks, not 5 like most people do to get a full number, i was going for consistency..
Also prior to my headwork, when my car was mostly stock, the car did not burn "that" much oil. Maybe a quart in 3000 miles. And the only change was the HG, cams, valvetrain, new valveseals.

i dont know if this is your problem, but it may help. i had a b16 swap in my hatchback with a supposedly chipped ecu and a vafc. the timing, and everything else was perfect. this setup... ran like ****. so i decided to do some trial and error work and took out the ecu. i opened up the ecu and the chip that was burned wasnt actually a real program. and the ecu wasnt even a p28. it was a stock po6(non-vtec dx computer) with no rev limiter. i thought this could be the problem. i bought a p28, chipped it, and put it in the car. that helped alot. i think the reason for this was the fact that the ecu had no vtec settings and vtec was controlled completely by the vafc, which made it run very rich and car lost all of its power. then i tried something else. i pulled my vafc and sold it. the car ran even better. it didnt not smoke any more, no hesitation what-so-ever, and it even gave me better gas mileage.
also if you have a fuel pressure regulator... try setting that back to factory settings and see what happens
good luck man

I let my car run low as **** on oil and the vtec wouldnt even kick in. I only did this around the block but it didnt have enough oil to work the vtec. Try checking oil pump. Make shure vtec mech is getting enough oil.

is it tuned right?
u have a b16 or a gsr running off that p72?
could it be the secondary runners part of the program ****** things up?(only if u have a b16)

was the head on the car milled alot? if thats the case, the timing maybe out of sync with the rest of the motor becuase of how much the head is cut.
but thats nothing a set of cam gears shouldnt fix....
