shim on the back of brake pads needed?
Ok, I only have one shim since the other set of brake pads got stolen...long story. Is the shim needed, if so what does it do. Helms says put it back on but I dont want to wait for acura to order it if no where else has it. It looks like its just a plate for the anti squeel to go in between, and without it will it make a lot of noise. Thanks

You hit the nail on the head. Its not needed but I would put it on though.

Friends I know who have not used the shims and greased them properly ALWAYS complain about brake noise. Just tell to take some shims from a different set, so you don't have to wait.
Just my .02 cents

Ive done this personally, my own self. And have been running them shimless for maybe 15k without any issues. No abnormal noise, nothing. Take it right from the horses mouth if you want to.

But why?
But why?
Ask the original poster why. He doesnt have the shim, and wanted to know if he has to pay for it or if he can run it without the shims. The reason in this case is, he doesnt have them.
The answer is, I would run them without them. I have, without any problems. If you have them, may as well put them on, or leave them off, whatever your preference is for whatever reason. Not a big deal. If you dont have them, no need to go stress over getting them.
