open voltage is 12.6-12.8
running voltage can hit 14.5 on many autos; motorcycle batteries are sensitive to higher voltage, especially the super tiny 9bs and 10bs sportbike sizes. Thus trying to keep the operating voltage in 12.7 range by not having the car's alternator bumping up the effective voltage.
and yes you can jump

Oh yeah... you realize that is how you used to have to start the race? Everyone is lined up on the grid standing next to they're scooters, and if you did not have the goods you got left behind, even if you qualified on the pole

still having problems starting it again.
It probly set for 2 weeks without running that shouldn't be a problem shoudl it?
when i was cranking on it, it backfired once if that helps. I put a charger on it last night and I guess we'll see what happens tonight.
thanks for all the help.
I tried to bump it, but I haven't perfected it yet.

I hope you set your charger to a lower setting than you would with a car... scooter batteries can not accept as high a charge, hence the trickle chargers that are avalible on the market, you may have torched your battery. and Two weeks can be a problem for some motorcycle batteries, lookinto a trickle charger when you get your starting problem resolved

Thanks, I had forgotten the reason. I had just remembered not to do it with the car running. When I jumpstarted my Ace, the Accord I used for the jump had plenty of juice in the battery without the engine running.

yes i set it at 2amp charge.
It ran fine before and when i went to start it since i moved in to my new place, i haven't been able to get it to run,
I t has a K&N filter and a yosi pipe on it. the back fire sounded like it was from the exhaust.

yeah when i was trying to pull it out of thte mini van i hauled it in, i ended up layign it down. (gently though) I just couldn't keep it from going down, but i was able to do it controlled.I was laying almost sideways in the back of the minivan. I had to get a friend to help pick it back up. (the wheel would slide on the carpet making it hard to do.)
I heard some one talk about the new F4i having a sensor but i figured sense mine is a 94 that it didnt have that.
any thoughts?

Yeah, that is why I asked... more than likely you need to let the floats get oriented again and let the bowls fill with petrol. Usually this takes a minute or so in the upright position with the engine cranking. but is suspect that your are already past that stage right? There is a chance the enigne/carbs were flooded when that happened to

Oops, I just read your original post. keep cranking and it should fire up after a minute or so

grr this is so fustrating.
I finally got the battery charged and it cranks good. but now it still wont start. it does backfire now, (i can see a small flame come out the exhaust.)
I am lost, should i take out my plugs and open the air cleaner?
maybe tommorrow will be the day?

Are you mechanically inclined? You could do a simple check to see that the plugs are not fouled... then remove the carbs as a unit and open the bowls to make sure the floats are oriented correctly. If the bike ran perfectly before it will again, don't worry. Unless, did anything break when it went down?
nothing broke, I was just hoping this would be easy.
getting to the carbs/plugs isnt an easy feat on a bike either. I would say i am mechanically inclined (nothing i cant do onn a car) This motorcycle is a little bit of a different world.
so under the knife it goes.
Thanks for all the help guys.

status:
changed the plugs (they looked a little black)
opened the bowls and checked the floats everythign seemed fine.
hooked everythign back up and she fired right up, but my idle is crazy high so i went and adjusted it with the **** under the seat and began to ride it around the cul-de-sac, and poof. she died and wont start.
if i go and bottom out my idle adjuster what is a reasonable amount to turn it back out to get me in the ball park, wouldl this make a big difference in starting the bike?
thanks again for all the help. Its tough trying to learn all this stuff by yoruself and you guys are a good resource.
