Default Feedback on Sparco Harness bar, does anyone have this in their R?

I'm interested in purchase this product, but first I would like some feedback form people who already own this. For instance, is the quality of the material good and how does it get mounted.

http://www.sparcousa.com/harness_bars.asp

I "don't" want to put a roll cage in my car because of the following reasons:

1. Don't want to drill holes.
2. Cargo space and passagers.

Thanks,

Cal

Harnesses without at least a rollbar are dangerous.

That said, even a rollbar can be dangerous in a daily driver.

My buddy runs a harnessbar in his SM prepared Civic but he trailers it and pretty much only uses it for competition. His bar isn't a Sparco from what I remember but is of good quality and worth it to him for the money he spent.

As well, from the link you provided it looks like you'll still need to drill holes for the vertical bars. I'm sure the application may differ but, I'd contact Sparco to discuss this further.

If holes and drilling are of major concern, personally I think the priorities are a bit askew. Safety should always be more important imo.

$400 seems a little pricey for that

When you consider I got my rollbar for $329. I tend to agree, but it totally depends on your intended application. As per my buddy rodney, in said SM prepped civic, he needed a harness bar obviously and previously had the same Autopower bar as mine but went with the harness bar and saved a crapload of weight which to him for competition is Extremely important.

And I reiterate his car is towed.

If there is interest we can make harness bars for like $250, we've already done it for WRXs...same if not better quality than the sparco...harness bars are great if you auto-x and just want to use them durring events...I would NOT wear harnesses on the street unless you have a roll bar

I was wondering this myself y is it bad to roll with harness on the street i can understand not having them if u have nothing to mount them to but from what the description of that harness bar that is xactly what it is intended for to "safely" mount a set of harnesses. I have been looking to get harnesses ever since i got my jdm recaros and i saw the add for the sparco harness bar and thought here is a semi cheap alternative to a roll cage

The idea is that you shouldn't use harnesses w/o rollover protection. A lot of people use these harness bars in autox cars because you get the advantages of harnesses but have a very small risk of rollover.

Ultimately its up to you if you want to assume the risks.

I believe Victor Perrie has that harness bar in his 97 R. Perhaps he shall chime in and give some foresight and pics....

That harness "guide" bar attaches to the upper (b-pillar) and lower outboard seat belt mounting locations.

I've got one just like Victors (used from Trey Commander).
Interesting to see that they are actually "Sparco" pieces, got mine through Speedware Motorsports/stainless.

These are Speedware units, that Sparco sells. I like mine, and I don't use harnesses. I use it for a camera mount and to stiffen up the center of the chassis. Hit me up if your interested in one.

If you don't have a bar and you're wearing a harness and roll over, you're head will be crushed.

How is that different from wearing a regular seatbelt?

Because with a regular seatbelt you can move, and with a harness you are strapped in one position.

he had them bolted to the back seats somehold i think either thru the seatbelts or somthing different, and i ask him.. hey isnt it unsafe to run it without a rollbar and he said no its only unsafe not to have it at a 45 degree... i never agreed with him.. but can anyone clarified

the degree at which the belt has to be mounted is variable. some places recommend various degrees. I know the belts pose a risk of back injury if it is mounted too low, in collisions.

Yeah and the chances of you getting into an accident and rolling over is the same as you crushing your head, chances are very slim. This being said though its still better to be safe than sorry
