Another R gone (not stolen)
Well friday night my friend was on his way to my house and he didnt make it. He got about a mile from my house and had an accident. He came around a turn at a decent rate of speed to find that they had covered the section of road in gravel and sand ( when the roads get a lot of tar on them thats what they do). He then spun, hitting a large tree backwards, then proceded the flip and slide down the road, coming to a halt in the middle of the road. The ambulance found him outside the car, just sitting there.
He was flown to Westchester medical center and treated for a broken back and multiple cuts and bruises. It turned out that when the car was sliding on the driver side he had used his arm to keep inside the vehicle. He came home yesterday, and is walking a little, and friday he will find out if he needs pins in his back. Someone was definately on his side

I have more pics, and will post them later....

I hope things work out for him... do you know if they issued a reckless driving (or assoc. ticket) to him?

He broke a few vertabrate, but they didn't touch the spinal cord. So he can stand up or lay down, he just cant sit.
As far as the road, I think they are extremely dangerous, asphalt is much better. I guess it all comes down to money

I know many places that do this including my home town. I agree that regular asphalt is better but being a careful and safe driver is also important. You can't blame the town for his mistake really. In most cases I remember on the roads treated this way there were warning signs posted for at least several weeks after such an application. Usually bright orange with "caution, oil road resurfacing".
After seeing the pics of the rear, he is one lucky guy. Best of luck on his recovery.
