Default Whats the CHEAPEST no hassle engine swap??

I'm looking at building my engine up in the near future. Instead of buying another car to drive while I'm doing the work (the R is my dd and will be out of service for a month or two), I'm thinking about just swaping a crappy, cheap, easy to find engine in.

Whats the cheapest engine I could use that would be of little hassle? ie: stock tranny bolts on, no serious wireing issues, etc...

Is Kendall's path the one to follow?

Thanks!

D series is definately the cheapest. Probably the most straight forward of swaps too. But you'll need to find a tranny also. Where if you bought a b-series block/head, you could use the ITR tranny in the meantime. There was a guy selling B16A shortblocks for $99 the other week...try checking the classifieds.

B18A1/B1, cheap and easy. Or D series, that will be the cheapest.

3k CAN is pretty cheap for a type R engine in my opinion.

Who said he was looking for an ITR motor? Read his post.

3k CAN is cheap (too cheap IMO) for an ITR motor but he was looking for the cheapest motor to put in it while he builds his ITR motor, not the cheapest ITR motor.

hey, how about a warm cup of STFU?

your posts are retarded, furthermore you seem somewhat retarded.

3000 canadian indicates something odd about the sale, or something you've left out, and does not help the OP in getting a good answer for his original question, as Dave pointed out.

I'm pissed? Damn I didn't know that. Somehow you can tell more about myself than I can from over the net. Weird.

I'm actually quite happy but thank you for your concern.

Perhaps you should have just posted "go here, they got some cheap motors and they even claim to have VINS!!!! Get your stolen* goods here!" or something.

* Stolen is just an example you see.

Edit: Hmm.. actually my stomach is feeling a bit weird after that subway sandwich I had for lunch.. maybe you are on to something. Food poisoning would make me pissed off.

D16A6. You could probably pick one up with a tranny for $500.

is your car still drivable? and are you planning to build bottom end only? if so.. buy bare block, if it comes with crankshaft and main caps - then its a plus.. you could find bare blocks for much less, since you're going to rebuild it anyway.

after its built, bring your car over and swap blocks.

Is that a cable or hydro tranny? Would the shift linkage bolt up no problem?

D16a6 + tranny won't bolt up in the ITR (cable clutch, obd-0, etc). You need a 92+ Civic motor/tranny for an easy swap.

1st gen b16a, your tranny and manifolds will bolt on to it, just about everything will plug in, expect check eng. light, if you don't convert to obdII.

i have seen 1st gen go for $300+

something better to consider would be a 1k daily driver. 88-91 civic, 5 spd. insurance would be around 400/yr for liability + theft.
