Which Motor Oil Do i USE ?

Default Which Motor Oil Do i USE ?

My mom has a '97 Civic( D16y7) it has more than 120,000 miles. Which motor oil do i need to put in it? 5-30, 10-30,10-40 ? Whats the DIFFERENCE between the types?

Search here on HT and Google and you can find alot about oil and what the differenece are between wieghts, etc...

Just use what your manual reccomends. I think it is 5w-30.

Yup, 5 or 10-W30 would be fine. I use 5-W30 all year around in jersey and i havent had any problems. If the previous owner used synthetic, i would continue to use it. And with that many miles, if he had used conventional oil, i would stick with that as well.

After switching to synthetic from conventional, the synthetics will break down the sludge on the seals from the conventional oil, and my cause premature leaks that the sludge has been blocking.
