CRX total color change, how bad is it..?
ok, another quick question for you all if its Ok... the '91 CRXsi i am considerinng buying *today* is white in color, and while not so bad it definitely wasn't my first choice for a factory color to start w/... so...
just how involved is a true color change on a CRX? is it a total nightmare, or not too bad? i did a color change years ago on my RX-7 and it was not fun at all, one unexpected hassle after another.
so how is it w/ CRX's? while i'm sure its not as complicated as a third-gen FD to strip down, is it still just a massive undertaking?
i am really wanting to pick up this car, even more so because of the very ncie condition original black leather interior package... any insight would be great, i'm scheduled to get w/ the seller in a few hours. good one to all..!

Are you sure that's not vinyl? lol
You can stip a CRX to it's shell in a day. Definitely not hard! </TD></TR></TABLE>
LOL. Must see pics of this interior.

I wasn't aware that there was a leather interior option?
Not trying to be funny....but 99% of the time when people refer to 'leather' and the subject is a Civic, I'll take a look at it and it's just vinyl!

hmm... my limited knowledge of these cars is becoming more apparent! the seller has been calling it a "black leather interior", i did not feel the seats so i'm sure you are all right on this.
well, regardless, the black interior pieces (headliner, doorskins, carpets, etc.) being in black still is a plus to me, i would probably end up having the seats recovered in nicer material in this case...
so, a color change from white to black isn't going to be a total nightmare, i could probably strip out much of the car in my garage to prep? also, what about painting within the engine bay itself? does the engine need to be pulled totally to paint under the hood, or is there room to cover and wrap much of the running gear to do some cursory painting?
thx for all the help and fast answers friends..!

I've seen many people paint an engine bay with the engine in. Just strip as much of it as you can, cover the block/head etc really good and start shooting.
Yes, you can strip the entire car in your garage....it's not a big deal at all!
As far as the interior...if it's an Si, I don't see why it would have factory vinyl interior since the cloth is the 'upgrade'...so it may be an aftermarket dealer installed leather interior?
At any rate...I personally wouldn't bother with a color change. White looks so good on the CRX! And a black interior on white exterior is getting hard to find

Prepping the car for paint is like a normal car man. Going inside the hood, you cant paint inside the engine bay without removing the engine totally, theres NO way around it. I'd leave the engine bay alone entirely. Lift up the hood for preperation half way so you can spray both sides, make sure you wrap your engine bay up and your front windshield also. That should cover the engine bay. Hmm I also suggest you take out your tail lights, and front head lights, and side corners. Tape up the black siding pieces as well if you want that stock look, otherwise just paint over it. The back rear panel windows, theres rubber molding around them, peel off that rubber, it should come right now, and its a sinch to put back in, no problem. Just tape around the edges on that part. I hope this helps ya out quite a bit!
